    Meeting of Estates General
    King Louis XVI summoned The Three Estates to solve a finnancial crisis and stabalize his rule. All three estates had a voice in the government, though voting was unfair to the larger estates since they only got one vote. The third estate, being the largest, feared that they would be overrun, so they formed their own national assembly in an indoor tennis-court, making the tennis-court oath and vowing to stay there until a new constitution was made.
  • Fall of Bastille

    Fall of Bastille
    An angry mob marched on Bastille, a medieval fortress in east Paris that was mostly housing political prisoners. To much of France it was a symbol of the king's regime. It took a few hours for the fortress to surrender and fall.
  • March on Versailles

    March on Versailles
    On this day, over 7000 working women marched on Versallies because most of Paris and the rest of France were hungy while Louis XVI feasted. Their rage took over Versailles, crying out "Bread! Bread!" Their age was most pointedly directed towards Marie Antoinette, who was clueless as to the problem, saying "Let them eat cake!" The mob demanded that King Louisgive out bread to the hungry people of Fance, and the king had no choice but to agree, and the march came to an end.
  • Flight to Varennes

    Flight to Varennes
    As the politics in France evolved, they began to create a new constitution with new lws such as the King having limited poweres such as being able to veto, but the national assembly could overpower his veto. The king and queen were appalled, and decided to seek refuge in Varennes after refusing to sign the new consitution in which they did not have enough power in their own palace. It was not long before they were recognized and forced to go back to a very, unhappy, France.

    Dissolution of the National Assembly
    The new Constitution was now in effect and this left people wonfering who the new legeslative government would be since it was now classsified as a constitutional monarchy. Nomember of the National Assembly was allowed to be in the new and improved, Legslative Assembly, leaving very few people with valuble political experience. The Legislative Assembly was composed of various political factions, ranging from moderate royalists to radical republicans.
  • War

    War
    With the new Legeslative Assembly, they feared that war would soon be upon them. The austrian monarchy neaighboring them made King Loius fear that they would easily be able to take over their still new government. The revolutionaries believed that if they went to war, it would spread the idea of revolution throughout Europe. April 20, France declared war on Austria.
