    The first meeting in 175 years forced by the Second Estate. This meeting was of the Estates General & it was for the purpose of approving the nex tax. Estates-General: an assembly of representatives from all three states or social classes in France.

    The National Assembly was Established
    The third estate voted to establish the National Assembly, with the purpose of proclaiming an end to the absolute monarchy in order to start a new Representative government. This led to the Tennis Court Oath National Assembly: French congress established by representatives of the third state that pass laws and reforms in the name of the French people.     A mob that was searching for gunpowder and & bombed the Bastille. (A prison in Paris.) Since then Bastille day is now a French national Holiday. This caused the "Great Fear" Great Fear: Wave of the senseless panic that spread through France after the storming of the Bastille.
  • The end to the separation of Estates

    The end to the separation of Estates
    Noblemen made speeches that declared their love for the idea of liberty & equality. They did this because of fear rather than because of idealism. Afterwards, they joined the members of National Assembly & supported the idea of sweeping away the privileges of the First & second estates in order to make everyone equal. By the next morning the Old Regime was dead.
  • Declaration of the Rigts of Man

    Declaration of the Rigts of Man
    National Assembly supported a revolutionary idea which was the Declarations of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. This stated that everyone is born equal and that everyone has the right of liberty, property, security and resistance of oppression. Declaration of the Rights of Man: A statement of revolutionary ideals that stated the rights of the people and equal justice, freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

    The National Assembly completed the new constitution which created a limited monarchy and created a new legislative body, the Legislative Assembly.
  • Parisian Women Riot

    Parisian Women Riot
    Parisian women rioted in Versailles over the price of Bread; they had knives, axes, & other weapons. They first demanded that the National Assembly should take action to provide bread. Afterwards they turned their anger to the king & queen; therefore they broke into the palace after killing some guards.     Church was reformed therefore, the Churchs' territory was taken away by the National Assembly.

    The escape of the Royal Family
    The Royal Family tried to escape to the Austrian Netherland but when they reached the border they were apprehended and & returned to Paris underground. This increased the influence of his enemies in the government and also sealed his fate. Emigres: People who leave their native country for political reasons.

    A war was declared by the legislative government on Austria and Prussia because of the spread of revolutionary ideas across Europe.
  • New Legislature

    New Legislature
    The National Assembly was dissolved by the king, and he later called for elections of a new legislature. Therefore, the new governing body took office in September 21 1792. Legislative Assembly: French congress established by the new Constitution with the power to create laws and to approve or reject declarations of war.
