  • Louis XVI Calls The Estates General

    The king, Louis XVI calls the estate generals, and they bring books filled with the people's complaints. When the king sends the estate generals, rumors were being heard that royal guards were laying the town under seige.
  • Storming the Bastille

    When the rumor of royal guards surrounding the town spread, the peasants beccame furious, and grabbed their guns and went to the Bastille. Since they didn't have gunpowder, they went there to get it, and killed the soldiers inside the prison.
  • Radicals Take Over

    When the people heard about the Declaration of Pillnitz, the people became furious and held the monarchs prisoner. People with emigres began writing about the peoples complaints.
  • French Society Divides-Financial Troubles

    The french government creates three new classes- the Clergy (preists and minesters), the Nobles (the rich landowners) and the rest were normal people. When the government spent more money than what they had, the country starts to get poor, and run out of bread and sugar.
  • Threats from Abroad

    When the people start to revolt against the monarchs, the King of Prussia and The Emperor of Austria create the Declaration of Pilnitz, which threatens that they will kill them if the monarchy comes to harm.
  • Revolt/National Assembly Acts

    When the Declaration of The Rights of Man was created, it did not include the women, and they went to Versaille to protest. The Queen was then forced to create a new document. Shortly after, the king and queen were decapitated and had their heads posted on sticks, and then the National Assembly was created.
  • Monarchy is abolished

    The people execute the king and queen, and soon after they take over the government. They started trying to create a better government for themselves.
  • Robispierre and "The Reign of Terror"

    In early 1793, Robespierre becomes leader, and creates the Comittee of Public Safety. Soon after, the Geotine was created, and Robespierre began executing people who he THOUGHT were his enemies.
  • 3rd Stage of the Revolution

    The 3rd stage of the revolution starts, and 3 constitutions were created since 1789. The directory of France takes power from 1795 to 1799. They made peace with Spain and Prussia, and war continued with Great Britain and Austria. The french directory turned to Napoleon for help.
  • The spread of Nationalism

    The revolution gave the french a strong sense of national liberty, and began to celebrate the revolution and their own nation.
