Estates general convenes
on may 5th 1789 king louis XVI convened the estates general. He tried for the third estate to get a larger number of votes than the first and second estate but it was overridden. -
Third estate declares itself the national assembly
This is when the third estate becomes the national assembly. It lasted from july 9th 1789 to september 30th 1791. -
Storming of Bastille
A mob of citizens marched to Bastille looking for gun powder and prisoners that had been taken by King louis XVI. The crowd got inside and took the guards and dragged them through the strrets of Paris. Tortuing the guards and eventually cutting off their heads. -

Louis XVI executed
King Louis was killed by the guillotine. This was a major event in the French revolution and the citizens felt the execution would seal the fate of the revolution. -
Maximilien Robespierre assumes leadership of the committee of public safety
Robespierre was in office until July 27th 1794 exactly one year after he took his position. The committee of public safety said it would protect the people from foreign attacks and internal rebellion. -
Robespierre is guillotined
Robespierre is at the height of his power when his people grow tired of him. The people, this time, convict Robespierre of treason and is sent to the guillotine. That is the end of Robespierre -
Napoleon Bonaparte seizes power
Napoleon was an ambitious man and eventually was able to make himself emperor of France from scratch. He ruled until April 11th 1814. -
Napoleon is defeated by the British at the Battle of Waterloo
Napoleon was unstoppable until this point and it took two combined armies to defeat him. Under the command of the Duke of Wellington and Gebhard von Blucher, they defeated Napoleon.
