    Four Reasons Why the French Wanted To Rebel
    1. Social Stratification- France was broken into 3 estates. The 1st and 2nd (the clergy and nobility) didnt have to pay taxes. Which caused tension beyween estates. 2.Enlightenment & American Revolution- The Enlightenment influenced the American Revolution which was then held as an example to other countries such as France.
    2. Economic Failure- France was in many wars and had many years of deficit spending.
    3. Weak government- Louis XVI left France in debt and he was a very indecisive king.

    With france having economic troubles the king was forced to call on the Estates-General. The Estates-General is the legislative body consisting of representatives from the 3 estates. Which caused more tension because when the king did that people feared that the nobels would recover feudal powers.

    The third estate wanted all 3 estates to meet as one group. So the met at an indoor tennis court. There the delegates took their Tennis Court Oath. Which said that they will meet whenever they would have to make a sound and just constitution. Which the king didn't fully accept.

    Bastille was used as a prison for plitical and other prisoners. 800 Parisians where outside of Bastille demanding weapons that they thought to be in there. The comander refused to open the gates and they opened fire on the people. Bastille is a symbol for the people of France, showing many years of abuse from the monarchy government.

    The Assembly issued the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citezen. Which was partially inspired by America's Delaration of Independence. The declaration states that all male citizens were equal before the law, and that taxes should be made according to ones income. The king did not want to accept the reforms.

    Paisians stormed the palace and killed the kings guards, and the royal family fled to the legislative Assembly. Later the ciizens attacked prisons that held nobles and priests. The Radicles called for a new legislative body. And with the new legislative body they voted to get rid of the monarchy and start a republic. So they killed the king.

    Robespierre "the incorruptable" was the leader of the Committee of Public Safety. He started the Reign of Terror, were revolutionary courts had fast trials for anyone who was thought to be a traitor. and then after the fast trial they would end up killing them with the engine of Terror, the guillotine.

    The effect of the terror resulted in the third stage of the revoluion. They set up a five man direcory which was corrupt which lost power in 1799. Then a military hero, Napoleon Bonaparte becae ruler of france. Even though the politicians only wanted Napoleon to help them achieve their goals he out smarted them.
