    This was the first such meeting for all of the reprsentatives. The ideas of the enlightenment philosophers had given members of the third Estate a new sense of importance.

    They proclaimed themselves a legislature the National Assembly, with the right to make laws for France. Louis relented and allowed each representative to have a vote.

    The next major event of the Revolution occured because Louis made a mistake.The mob killed the commander, struck his head on a long stick, and paraded it through the streets. The action of the storming Bastille became a powerful symbol of the French Revolution.

    Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen
    Laid out the basic principles of the French Revolution-"liberty, equality,and fraternity. The document stated that men are born equal and remain equal before the law.

    Creation of the National Convention
    Abolished the monarchy and declared France a republic. French republic held its ground against Europes old order.

    After voting unanimously to find the deputies held a seperate vote on his punishment. This put France in conflift with all the other countries around them.
