Louis the XIV becomes KIng
He became King when he was only five years old. Chief Minister Mazarin Ruled for him from 1643-1661. At age 23 Louis decided to rule for himself. -
Louis XV becomes king
Louis XV becomes king the day that Louis XIV dies. The nobility wanted to regain power and the country had financial problems. This helped to pave the way for the French Revolution. -
Tennis Court Oath
Members of the 3rd estate showed up to the meeting hall and they were locked out. They moved to a nearby Tennis court and swore "never to separate" until France has a constitution. Some of the members from the other two estates join this group and the King orders them to separate. They refuse and eventually the king gives in. -
Storming of the Bastille
Peasants came to the aid of the Bourgeoisie in storming the Bastille. They freed prisoners, removed the cannon, and got gun powder. There were very few prisoners in the Bastille and the even became a symbol of the revolution. -
Reign of Terror
The reign of Terror lasted one year and was led by Robespierre. All people opposed to the revolution were executed. They held a criminal court to hold trials for those denounced. There were tens of thousands killed
