People storm Bastille to free prisoners, remove cannon, and get gun powder. This became the symbol of revolution, and represented the hated Old Regime.

Louis tries to escape to Austira with his wife and children when the tension between France and other countires increased. He was recogonized and imprisoned.

A wave of mob violence, including the killing of imprisoned nobles and preists were accused of politcial crimes. The radicals took over the Legislative Assembly, and called for a national convention.

First arrested, then stripped of all his titles and honors. On the day of his execution, he arrived in a carriage instead of the normal cart that others would normally arrive in. He stripped off his own clothes, and only military men watched his execution.

This was led by Robespierre. Anyone who opposed to the revolution was executed, which led to mass executions and mass madness. Tens of thousands were killed.

The moderates were back in power, and there was a committee of five men governing France. In 1795-1799, France was governed by the directory. It was weak, inefficient, and dishonest, with France still in debt.
