Frederick went to Cyprus to start the 6th crusade. An outbreak of fever among the crusader forced him to turn back. Pope Gregory IX though didn't think this was a valid reason so he excommunicated him.

Emperer Frederick declared that he was going to take part in the crusade on JUne 28, 1228. When he arrived a fever broke out among the crusaders, He asked Pope Gregory IX to leave and go back to his hometown, but Pope Gregory IX didn't thing that it was a valid reason to leave.

Frederick signs the treaty with Sultan Makik Al-Kamil of Egypt. This treaty gave power of Jerusalem, Nazarth, and Bethlahem from Muslim forces. Al-Kamil signed the treaty because of Frederick's knowledge of the Arabic language and culture.
