Technology use

By caponio
  • In the beginning

Everyone was using email and had ability to use the computer. I didn't have one but wanted to be able to use one as well as anyone else.
At my second job, after returning from Japan, all the teachers were given the new imacs. Remember, they're the bubble-shaped colorful computers. It was a big treat for all of us. However, not all of us, including myself, were very savvy when using it. But this was my happy beginning.
  • I've got email!

I started working in an independent study charter school. One of the teachers had purchased a new computer and offered her old one to any of us. I raised my hand right away as I did not have one of my own.
Fortunately, many features were already available on this computer such as Word and other things. Basically, word processing was the majority of what I was able to do on the computer. But most important of all I think was setting up my email account!
  • Job

On line ordering curriculum home schooling families.
  • Classes

I was so frustrated when trying to execute certain features or activities on my computer. I decided to take some classes at the junior college. Looking back the classes I took were a little ridiculous. I thought they would be useful but not really. Oh well.
  • Augment hearing

My student used a simple device that augmented the sound of my voice so that she could remain in the general education classroom.
  • Read Naturally program on line

Students loved this on line reading program to develop fluency.
  • Nowadays

Now I am determined to get an ipad and/or iphone so that I can be as aware and technology capable as my students.
  • Virtual Schooling/Skype

Some of the special education students on my roster will be taught when necessary via Skype.
