Rotary Phones
I can remember not having a phone in my parent's house. Next door my grandmother had a rotary phone. -
TV
TV's were huge back in the day. I remember having floor models in the living room. -
Home Tech
At home, we had a record player, an 8 track player, and 13 channels on the TV. -
Push button phone
My grandmother upgraded to a push button phone that hung in the kitchen. -
VCR
We usually kept a VCR, and mom and dad would rent videos from Rite Aid or Tape Hut. -
My first TV
My brother and I finally got a small TV put in our room. It had dials to change channels, a dial for UHF channels, and you had to turn a dial to fine tune the picture. -
TAPES!
I start to fall in love with rock music. I start asking for cassette tapes and record tapes from the radio and copy them from neighbors. Then I got my first walkman and headphones -
CDs
In middle school, all my friends started using CD's and Discmen. Feeling the pressure to keep up, I stole one from a local store. My parents busted me, and I was grounded for a year. I eventually did some odd jobs and bought one. -
High School Computer lab
In 1996, I get to take classes in the high school computer lab and learn keyboarding, Publisher, Word, and Netscape. -
College
I get to use the Berea College computer lab for anything I want, but mostly research papers. -
First computer
I bought my first computer, an E-Machine. It burnt discs, played DVDs, and I could get on the internet. It had a huge boxy monitor too. -
Mom's first computer
My mom finally buys a Dell Desktop. Her first computer. -
1st Nokia
I got my first cell phone, a Nokia. Truthfully, still my favorite. -
Ipod
I got my first iPod, the "Video iPod." I was able to carry all our family photos and my collection of 4000 songs around in my pocket -
My first laptop
I bought a Dell Inspiron after registering for Elementary Education classes at my local community college. -
Smartboard and student teaching
In 2012, I do a semester of teaching, and I use a Smartboard to play enrichment games with 3rd graders. -
Mobile Lab
I start teaching in 2013 and make it a priority for my students to use our mobile labs as often as possible. -
S4
I finally caved in and got a smartphone. -
Smart TV
I buy my first smart TV for home after having one installed in my classroom. I can connect all my devices to it, surf the internet, and use streaming services. -
iPod Touch
Yeah, my iPhone carrying friends can't iMessage me, so I get an iPod touch. It was about time anyway, someone stole my video iPod about 3 years earlier.
