    Hydrophone
    The hydrophone was first invented by Reginald Fessenden who was a Canadian inventor (Sass). He decided to make this “as a way to locate icebergs following the Titanic disaster (Sass).”Unfortunately it couldn't tell where objects were underwater, only how far they were from the boat (Sass).

  • Gas mask

    Gas mask
    The gas mask was created by Doctor Cluny MacPherson in 1915 (Bellis). He made this mask due to the Germans using poisonous gases in Ypres (Bellis). The mask was made out of fabric, metal, a “canvas hood with eyepieces and a breathing tube (Bellis).” It had chemical sorbents in it to fight out the chlorine that was in the air(Bellis).

  • Chlorine Gas

    Chlorine Gas
    In 1915, the Germans first used chlorine gas against the Canadians at Ypres (history.com editors). They used more than 150 tons of the deadly gas this day (history.com editors). “Troops were smothered in a ghostly green cloud of chlorine (Pruszewicz)”, and many died due to the fact they had no protection against (Pruszewicz).

    Canadian Ross Rifle
    The ross rifle was made by Sir Charles Ross (Foulds). This gun made a good hunting rifle but, “the Ross was not robust enough for regular use in the trenches (Canadian War Museum). ” It would also jam sometimes after rapid firing which was not ideal (Canadian War Museum).

  • British Lee-Enfield

    British Lee-Enfield
    The creator of this gun was James Paris Lee (Brief History of Enfield Rifles). Canada switched their gun to the British Lee-Enfield in 1916 (Canadian War Museum). This gun was “robust, reliable, and effective (The Buzz)”. It allowed soldiers to make quick shots after they had just fired it (The Buzz).

  • Discovery of Insulin

    Discovery of Insulin
    The Canadian orthopaedic surgeon Frederick G. Banting and a few other teachers from the University of Toronto discovered insulin (Felman). Insulin is a hormone that is made in your pancreas and it lets your body use sugar as energy (Higuera). When your body does not make enough insulin or doesn't use it properly, it is called diabetes (Higuera).

    Snowmobile
    The snowmobile was created in 1922 by Joseph-Armand Bombardier who was a mechanic and inventor (Westshore Marine & Leisure). He wanted to make this vehicle that can travel in the snow to make it easier to get to places when the harsh winter months came (Canadian Museum of History).

    Queenston-Chippawa Hydro-Electric Development
    The creation of the Queenston-Chippawa Hydro-Electric Development started in 1917 and was completed in 1925 (Parks Canada). They created this because of the high demands for more electrical power in southwestern Ontario and Toronto (Parks Canada). It is located in Queenston, Ontario at Niagara Falls (Parks Canada).

    The Canadian inventor and designer Frank Morse Robb was the first inventor in the world to successfully make an electric organ in 1927 (King). It was called the ‘Robb Wave Organ’(King). Less than 24 of these were made due to a lack of finances (King).

    The Official Opening of the Hudson Bay Railway
    The Hudson Bay Railway started to get built in the early 1900’s and it officially opened on September 10th 1929 (Regehr). This railway is a part of the ‘Canadian National Railways’, and it cost more than $45 million to make (Regehr). This railway went from The Pas, Manitoba to Churchill, Ontario (Goldsborough).
