Task 6 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of consructing this product?

  • Introduction to Equipment

    Introduction to Equipment
We were introduced to the beasic kit that we were going to have to use throughout the course, This included the iMacs and MacBooks. These are what all of the software we would need to use were on.

  • Further Introduction to Equipment

    Further Introduction to Equipment
We were introduced to two of our most used pieces of kit throughout the course - the tripod and video camera. Both were very simple to function. We prodcued our prelim video here, where we used the equipment for the first time. We focused on things like shot/reverse shot and keeping to the 180 degree rule.

    Using Equipment
We had to use the tripod and video camera once more to create our own Arlington Road style video. We were taught the different shots and camera movements and were set the task of producing our own video. This allowed us to try and show our knowledge of shots and see how successfully we could film them, focusing on using the correct rules, such as the rule of thirds.
  • Using Final Cut Express

    Using Final Cut Express
Although we had already looked at FCE our Arlington Road style video was our first time where we had to focus on editing our work effectively to try and influence the audiences emotions and to try and make it as similar as possible to an existing film. While editing, we needed to find affects such as negative that would change the image completely like Arlington Road. These effects were usually already installed in FCE which we accessed from the toolbar.
  • Using LiveType for Final Cut 2

The two boxes on the right hand side allowed us to change the appearance of the text. Firstly, the one on the left we used to change the colour, and size of the text. We used small text, which was white. The box on the right allowed us to firstly choose the font. We went with 'Cracked'. It also allowed us to add any effects that we wanted to it. We decided to use an effect that was slightly distorted and irratic, like Se7en. It also allowed us to alter how the text came in and left the shot.

We shot our final cut and then needed to add our text. Our font and effects were solely based on the film Se7en. As you can see the main part of the layout of LiveType is the canvas. This allowed us to change where out text would be positioned on screen. This was important as we wanted our positioning to resemble Se7en, and we need to make sure it was as readable as possible when placed onto our filming.

The bar along the bottom allowed us to change the timings of our text. It is where all the actions to do with the text are listed and can be altered. We were able to change how long the text stayed on screen for, which was usually about 4 or 5 seconds. It also listed the different effects we had and we could alter the duration of them. An example is on some word we faded them in, & it allowed us to schoose how fast the fade in went. Similarly we could alter how long our distorted effect lasted.
  • Using Soundtrack for Final Cut

    Using Soundtrack for Final Cut
The main thing we used Soundtrack for was our voice recording. We simply use the record tool on Soundtrack, and used our own built in microphone on headphones to speak in to. We recorded this in different stages of around 5 parts. This meant on Soundtrack we had 5 sections of recording making it easier to manouver where we wanted it after importing it into Final Cut Express.

After producing our titles and sountrack & voiceover we imported them into FCE. The bar along the bottom of FCE then had within in our shots, sound and titles all together. This allowed us to lay them out as we wished to try and make our opening sequence presented as perfectly as possible. The screen at the top allowed us to preview what our work would look like throughout.
