  • "Cards & Comics " opens at Britts Flea Market

    "Cards & Comics " opens at Britts Flea Market
    Cards & Comics opened at Britt's Flea Market in Downtown Lawrenceville. Kyle Puttkammer sold comics while his friend Daniel Cotton sold sports cards. The "hot" comics that year were X-men #1, Ghost Rider #15, & Silver Surfer #50. The comic industry was building momentum.

    Cards & Comics moves to the "Old Rail Road Depot"
    Cards & Comics opens full time and moves to "The Old Railroad Depot" and changes it's name to "Comics & Music". Richard Gedney, Kyle's new partner, would share in the work as new shelves were built and stocked. After 3 months, Richard's product was not selling (Music CD's & tapes) and so he moved out. I was on my own now. The store needed a permanent name... something that would define us. Thus Galactic Quest was born.

    Art Classes launched
    Our first art class was taught by Kyle. It was a huge success and attendance soon grew to 20 students most every week. Galactic Quest still offers weekly art classes to this day.

    Galactic Quest art classes were taught mostly by Kyle, but additional instructors helped. Allen, Jared, Chris, and even guest instructors like Adam Hughes. These classes helped greatly to keep our doors open early on and eventually turned into Kyle's appearances at Libries and the creation of Galaxy Man comics.

    Galactic Quest's Art Class is featured on Channel 5's Campus Live. The 15 minute spot was a highlight in our history. Galactic Quest promotes the "Star Trek Generations" movie club which was held at Town Center Cinemas.

    Marvel makes a move to dominate the comic industry through self distribution. This later proves a financial flop and Marvel files for bankruptcy.

    The "Galactic Quest Bat Fest" is a huge success! The store's sales floor space is dramatically expanded. Batman Forever brings many new customers to our store.

    The return of Star Wars! Galactic Quest makes history! Our movie promotion makes it on the evening news and front page of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.     "We're in the hallway"! Some of the best gatherings were in the mall store's location. Even though we had no street signage, buisness was good due to games, Star Wars, and Poke'mon. There were dark times too, like flooding and such, but in general it was good memories. When we moved up the hill it turned out to be a big improvement.

    Galactic Quest expands to the internet. The Star Wars Jabba's Palace Pre-release tournament is one of only 19 in the world and is held at the Buford store. 40 players attend.
  • Fox 5 news @ GQ / SW Prequel

    The trailer for the Star Wars Prequel was released in theaters. Many people were going to the movies just to see the trailer! Channel 5 wanted to interview some fans, so they came to Galactic Quest during one of our first Thursday night tournaments. They showed the trailer LIVE at our store and got LIVE reaction from our customers for the 10pm news. The broadcast went very well and brought us hundreds new customers.     GQ supports Comic Book Artists and "CURE Childhood Cancer" with our first 24 hour artist marathon! Ten artists drew a total of 90 comic pages all in the space of 24 hours. FOX 5 Atlanta's Brett Martin broadcasts live from our Lawrenceville store as part of his Road Warrior report. The entire experience is fantastic for all the artists involved and they look forward to returning next year.

  • Buford store expands

    Buford Store New & Expanded!
    Huge Thanks go out to Joseph, Zack, Nick, and Morgan for all the help moving from suite 12 to suite 10 (Two doors up, Where the Real-estate spot was). We did it all in just two days. This larger location improves our game room and storage space. It also moves us closer to "Golden Buddha", increasing our exposure.
  • Lord of the Rings CCG

    Realms of the Elf-lords prerelease in Buford brings 50 players. This was our largest LotR event and everyone had a great time. Richard Deeter walked away with the victory.
  • 3rd Gamers Marathon

    Over $500 in prizes were given out. Paul Reyes won the $150 shopping spree. Horace Howell won the $50 shopping spree. Over 100 registered players with over 50 players staying through the entire night.

    Batman the Dark Knight opens nation wide and becomes one of the biggest movies in history. GQ invited to the Mall of GA for batmobile appearance.
  • 1st Dragon Con tournament hosting invite

    Galactic Quest is chosen to run all Collectible Card Games at Dragon Con! With plenty of help from volunteers and past employees, we were able to run over 40 events in very short notice! Needless to say it was lots of work, but fun was had by all! This invitation grows into providing CCG support for all major Atlanta conventions including AWA and Momo con.

    Our "Galaxy Man" comic book efforts continue to gain popularity. An official theme song is created by Radio Cult and our "How to Draw" classes are presented at over 37 locations! Artists continue to gather every Monday in Lawrenceville and commissioned art sales continue to increase.

    Kyle is invited to speak at Armstrong University for insite on how Galaxy Man comics are created. 60 teachers learn how to use comics in the classroom and many decide to give Galaxy Man comics to thier students.

    Live Oaks Public Library's annual gathering. Our first "all kids comics" tents in Savannah was a huge success! Tracy Yardley (Sonic the Hedgehog), Allen Belk, and Marcus Williams entertain the kids with artwork. Around 35 thousand people pack the park.
  • Yugioh Photon Shockwave Regional Qualifier

    220 players turn out for a December regional at Bethak Banquet Hall. Registration goes smoother and the players are generous.
  • Anita's Art School opens next to comic shop

    We welcomed a new neighbor at the Buford store... Antia's Art School.
  • Sean Taylor & Hannah Day become managers for the Buford store.

    Sean Taylor, who writes comics for IDW and many other companies, steps in as manager for the Buford store. Hannah Day helps out on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

    After an incredible struggle to produce the next issue, it finally arrives and is our best work yet!

    Momo Con moves to the Marriott Hotel and brings in almost 9,000 attendees! Galactic Quest continues to run all the card gaming events. Kyle is later asked to officially join the Planning Committee
  • C2E2 and Diamond Retailer Summit

    Kyle is asked to speak at Diamond's retailer summit about the successes we've had at libraries and school. Galaxy Man is picked up by Diamond for national distribution. C2E2 attendees are introduced to Galaxy Man at New Legends Productions booth.
  • Regional & Prerelease weekend

    350 people play tournaments at Galactic Quest events on our biggest weekend yet.
    1) Our first ever midnght prerelease in Lawrenceville for Magic (Avacyn) with 40 players.
    2) Two Yugioh sneak peaks (one at each store)
    3) A Saturday prerelease of Magic in Buford.
    4) A Yugioh Regional Qualifier at Malibu Grand Prix with 218 players! It was exhausting, but fun!
  • FCBD - Avengers Movie weekend

    Free Comic Book Day was a huge hit this year as the Avengers movie breaks all the records. Plenty of new customers have said that they had to get some comics to continue the adventures. Plenty of guests and costumes.
  • Hero Cats comic begins production

    Our second comic creation is called "Hero Cats" and we sold our first page at Heros Con. Production of the book swings into full gear and all of the pencils are sold in October. We are working on getting the book out before the end of the year.
  • Card games at Dragon Con

    Christy Park is chosen as second assistant with card games at Dragon Con. Our Stores host the largest Poke'mon event in recent history. 70+ participants.
  • Anime Weekend Atlanta / new hotel

    Galactic Quest is asked to run card games at AWA and our overall attendance breaks records! 58 players for the midnight release in Buford, then three more big events. 150 total Magic players served along with 26 Card Fight Vanguard players. Yugioh was well represented too. Magic's Return to Ravnica release ends up being our most successful set release to date.
