St Ignatius was born in a family castle in Guipuzcoa, Spain. He was the youngest of thirteen children that were brought up by Maria de Garin. Was baptised at the Church if St Sebastion Basque village.

St Ignatius went into the military force for the Duke of Navarre.

He was struck with a cannon ball, hurting his leg while in battle, he layed in bed for several weeks to recover, but had a major conversion.

His major conversion had a great impact on him being so much closer to God. He wrote the book 'Spiritual Excercises'.

He took the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.

St Ignatius founded the Society of Jesus which was approved by Pope Paul III in 1540. it has two major aims:
1. to preach the Gosepl in non-Christian lands.
2. strenghten when necessary to restore in Catholic faith -
He fell under suspision of heresy by the Church heirachy and was imprisoned and tried by the Spanish Inquistion.

The Spiritual exercises were published and made official to the world.

St Ignatius died from Roman Fever.

He was canonized by Pope Gregory XV.
