Six Day War

  • Why all the hate?

Many wonder why exactly does Egypt and Syria hate Israel so much? The answer lies about 6000 years ago, and it is not necisarily how Israel is today that causes them to hate Israel it is what it used to be. The birthplace for not only jews, Muslim, and Christians. It is where many powerful leaders and empires conquered jerusalem, the Alexander, the Ceasars, and Cairo, all of which hated Israel. So you could pretty much sum this hatred up to alot of old grudges that were never let go.
  • Before the War

    Before the War
Before the war began there were a series of events that pushed both all three countries into war. It is hard to say exactly what started all of this but to me it was the killing of 278 Israelis in Palestinian fedayeen attacks. Followed by many more including, the shelling of Israel by syria, Egypt and Syria sign mutual defense pact against Israel, Hussein publicly insulted Nasser, and the main blow- the blockade of the Tiran which was considered to be an act of war.
  • Military Build-Up

    Military Build-Up
By June 4th Egypt had deployed two of their division in Sinai. They had 200 tanks along with the 60,000 Jordanian soldiers and 300 tanks. Compared to Syrias army with a total of 40,000 soldiers and 240 tanks ligned up on the Golan Heights.
  • The War has Begun

    The War has Begun
On June 5th, war broke out when Israel responded to the Egyptian military build-up by surprise attacking Egypt's air force. Also, that morning King Hussein was falsely told that the Egyptian attack was very successful and instantly sent more troops to launch multiple attacks on Israel even though they were more than prepared.
  • The War is in Full Flight

The War is in Full Flight
This is technically the second day of the war but to most it is considered the first. After the suprise attack by Israel on the enemies airfield. And the Israeli troops push forward to occupy Gaza. But at the same time the enemies took the city of Jerusalem, which was a critical blow. But as everyone knows Israelis people will never give up their land.
  • The Next Step

    The Next Step
This day was critical for the Israelis and for the outcome of the war. Israel sent troops pushing straight into Jerusalem they knew if they could drive them back much needed leverage would be gained, the battle was not very long as the Israeli Defense Forces were much better trained and prepared than the enemies, they ended up getting Jerusalem back
  • Nearing the End

    Nearing the End
On this day Israel made a very contraversial move, they attacked and sunk the USS Liberty, and American inteligence ship, an they killed 34 on it. Later that day they explained that is was an accident and no harm was meant to go to americans, this apology was accepted but it opened the eyes of the Americans.
  • Israel Pushes on

    Israel Pushes on
This day was a pivitol point, already in trouble Syrian and Egyptian forces were being pushed back rapidly but they did still have control of the Suez Canal, not for long. That was Israels first objective and it was about 2:30 when the Suez Canal was captured by Israel.
  • End of War

    End of War
This date marks the end of the six day war, as Egypt and Syria retreat and forfiet the war. It all ended with Israels final press in Golan Heights, which led to a cease fire the next day. This was considered to be an astonishing win for Israel as there were outnumbered in every way, it boosted the countries morale and nationalism, and it changed how other counrties see Israel from that small country that is filled with oil, to the military powerhouse filled with soldiers who fight to the death.
  • More to Come

    More to Come
After the war there were many changes including the U.S. becoming one of Israels closest allies, along with alot more respect given to Israel and their amazing military due to the fact that they protected their small underestimated country from two other powerful countries. The Israeli people are now known to be tough fighters that will go to the death to protect their country as seen in the 6 day war.
  • How The World Was Molded

    How The World Was Molded
