Charles "The Hammer" Martel led the Carolingians to win against the Muslims in the Battle of Tours. This battle led to the conquering of Spain and the eventual kingship of of Charles Martel's son Pepin "The short." -

Pepin "The Short" is Crowned King of Franks
In 751 Pepin "The Short" asks Pope St. Zachary to becom king of te Frans, and St. Boniface annoints him. Then in 751 Pope Steven II travels to France and crown Pepin "The Short" king of Franks. -

King Pepin Defeats the Lombards
After Pope Steven II anoints King Pepin, Pepin goes to Rome with his army to protect the Pope from the Lombards. After Pepin defeats the Lombards, he gives the pope the Papal States of Rome, Ravenna, and Perugia. -

King Carlom Dies
King Carloman of the Wesern Franks dies. The death means that his brothe Charles will become king of the etire Franksh Empire. This death is thought to maybe have been murder on the part of Charles in hopes of becoming total king of the Franks, although this has never been proven. -
King Pepin Dies
In the year 768 King Pepin "The Short" dies, and he gives his powers to his two sons; Charles and Carloman. Carloman became king of th West, and Charles became king of th East.
