  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    On June 17, the Third Estate decided to break from the Estates General and make up their own constitution, calling themselves the national assembly. Louis locked them out of their usual meeting spot so they gathered at a nearby tennis court.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    July 14th, 1789 - An angry mob attacked the Bastille which was a very symbolic prision during the revolution. The mob went up to the gates and demanded the freedom of the seven prisoners and all their ammunition. When the guard refused to comply, they mauled him and carried his head on a stake. This kickstarted the French Revolution.
  • March to Versailles

    March to Versailles
    A lot of women were very angry about the prices of bread and how they were even rising. A small group started to mob the marketplace and then that small group turned in to thousands. Angry, they raided local armories and marched to Versailles. The women besieged the royal palace and demanded they lower bread prices and go back to Paris.

    Louis tried to escape to Austria because his job as a king was very un-successful. However his disguise was seen through easily and he was arrested. People saw him as a traitor to the revolution so they executed him

    The Declaration of Rights of Man is document that was passed by the national assembly that stated the french expectations on how they wished to be treated. It is significant because it helped create the idea that all humans should be treated equally.
  • The Terror

    The Reign of Terror began with the execution of Marie Antoinette. The whole idea was to kill everybody who was even rumoured to be afilliated against the revolution. That way, there would no one to oppose Robespierre or the revolution.
  • Robespierre comes to power

    Robespierre comes to power
    Robespierre rose to power by taking a politcal position and calling out the government. When he turned 30, he was elected to the estates general. Robespierre was an advocate for human rights and was against slavery and the death penalty
  • Robespierre killed

    Robespierre killed
    Robespierre was killed because everybody was fearing that he was a tyrant. He killed two of his close friends that were also on his side, so the otheres in the government feared that they would be next so they decided to kill him. Prior to his death, he attempted suicide but only shattered his jaw. The next day he met his gate with the guillotine. All of his family and followers died also
