Progression

  • Preliminary Start

We were placed into set groups of 4. In these groups, we had developed ideas for our piece. In the brainstorming process, the mixed ideas from the others in the group helped lter on with my own ideas for the actual product.

  • Preliminary Production

Next, we started producing the product. From this process, I have learnt to prepare the timings and locations more carefully and earlier on, in case of any developments that may affect the production. As our main room was in use, we had to. postpone our production until another day. From this, I learnt to plan earlier which helped in the final product, as we had time to re-shoot and add extra shots in due to the planning
  • Preliminary Editing

We started editing on the preliminary product. From this part, I had learnt how to use the Adobe Aftereffects programme. Since I had not used this programme before, studying another editor using the programme taught me the basics of it and how i could use the programme for my final product. I also developed my skills in Adobe Premiere. As I had not used it since my GCSE product, re-using the programme refreshed my understanding and also allowed me to find new techniques, such as ghosting tool.
  • preliminary finish

Finished the preliminary task and started to evaluate it. From the audience feedback and also from watching other pieces, I was able to develop my understanding of the different techniques used in the different pieces, including different filter effects which were used for CCTV shots, which I had developed into my own filter effects, which i used for the title sequence, using filters such as the inverted colours, which other groups felt worked effectively.
  • Planning

I had started planning my piece, and used my ideas from the preliminary to provide my group with different ideas for the product, including some of the sequences that unfold. My ideas had become more complex and developed sinse the preliminary, as I had used the audience feedback.
Also, sinse the preliminary task, I had used more in-depth research into different sequences. These helped me gain more ideas for different shots, and how different editing techniques could give off different moods.
  • Planning 2

The research helped develop certain ideas for the piece. For example, the title sequence from Arlington Road, gave me the idea to use the filters I had learnt from the preliminary task in the title sequence, to show the abnormality of the sequence. other research, such as Mission Impossible, gave me the idea to include certain shots from the narrative of the sequence in the titles, to use as a round up of the plot.
  • Production

From my preliminary, I had realised that I need to be more organised in sorting out the filming for the piece. I needed to make backup plans in case my location was taken. This helped develop the timings for our shoot, and made the shoot a lot more efficient, finishing by 10 in the morning, as we accounted for other people getting in the way for our shoot. I feel that this filming went much better than the preliminary, as I had planned out each shot beforehand.
  • Production 2

After production was finished, our efficiency meant that we had enough time for re-shoots for certain scenes that did not require the need for the actor to come back and reshoot, as well as developing our narrative by filming another scene.
  • Edititng

From my preliminary piece, I had used my new skills for editing to develop a more professional looking editing techniques and effects, using after effects to develop these sequences. These new skills helped produce the main sequences, by using mininmal special effects to make the film seem more realistic and professional, as I learnt from the preliminary that too many effects can be bad. I also used the filters that I learnt from the preliminary, to develop the title sequence in the piece.
