We had a brief introduction onto the project that we are starting which is British social realism and what codes and conventions are needed for this piece of coursework.
Next lesson we will be tested on what is needed to make a successful BSR film so revise on the key codes and conventions. -

16th November
Today we re-looked at BSR and what is needed and we also made ourselves a spider diagram and began to brain storm ideas that we want for our film/opening sequence.
Next lesson we will be writing up the theme of our film and what will happen in it, also focusing on the narrative and characters. -
18th November
I chose one idea that i liked from the brainstorm and i expanded on that by writing a brief about my film and all the codes and conventions i will be using. I need to choose a title and get more of an understanding on BSR and how I will portray this in my opening sequence. -
22nd November
Today i brainstormed further on my ideas for the title and chose the one I want to use for my film which is ‘Simple’. I also continued to structure my brief on my opening sequence. I need to type up my spider diagram and look at the key aspects that I want to use for my film. -
23rd November
Today i began typing up my spider diagram onto Microsoft word and also finished typing up the key aspects needed in a BSR film that I will be using in my opening sequence. Next lesson i need to finish putting my spider diagram onto Microsoft word and make a start on the next piece of planning work. -
25th November
I finished typing up my spider diagram for ‘simple’ onto Microsoft word and began to create my Production Schedule which should have been done last week! Next lesson I need to finish off my Production schedule. -
29th November
Today I didn’t get to finish off my production schedule because the computers were not working so I began on my storyboard and shorting out my shot listing. I need to complete my story board and hopefully try to complete my production schedule. -
30th November
Tuesday 30th November 2010 Today I was unorganised and left my folders at home so I started on the treatment and got briefed on how to write out script. I need to finish of the last paragraph of My treatment and complete the storyboard. Hopefully get a head start on the script. -
2nd December
Today we did our essay on ‘This is England’ to see if we have understood what the British social realist genre is about. I need to finish off the story board from the previous lesson and continue draft the script. -
6th December
Today I took 1 hour out to understand how to write a script and read over a screenplay format in order to help me understand how to do this. I also began to make notes and draft. I continued with my storyboard and began to add the detail needed for the director. Need to finish off the storyboard and begin with the script. -
7th December
Today I researched different Distributors for my film and explained why i think each one would/would not be good to distribute my film. I researched 6 different distribution companies, 3 of which I think wouldn’t be appropriate to distribute my film and 3 which I think will be good. Next lesson I need to finish off my story board because it is taking far too long to complete! -
9th December
Today we spent 2hours explaining and understanding the meaning behind British social realism and I got a deeper understanding of what is needed in my film and what needs to be put into my planning folder. Next lesson I MUST finish my story board and begin making notes on the screen play. I have also been given back my essay on ‘This is England’ so I need to improve that and make it a higher grade. -
13th December
Today I have finally finished my story board and got a deeper understanding by talking to my teacher about the script/screen play. I also began making notes on the screen play. Next lesson I need to properly draft out my screen play and begin to write out a shot list. -
14th December
Today I completed my shot list and matched it to each shot on the story board so my orders of shots are correct. I also created a questionnaire for students to film out as audience research. Next lesson I need to draft out my screen play and continue to finish it during independent study at home. -
16th December
Today I spent the hour taking noted and re organising what is needed for my planning folder to get a high grade and I also sorted out what I need to do over the holidays. Over the holidays I am going to complete any of the planning work which hasn’t yet been done and improve it all as a whole. -
20th December
Independent Study- Today I just looked at what needed to be completed and started sorting out my planning folder. I finished off creating my Production schedule and then re-drafted my treatment to a better standard. -
21st December
Independent Study- Today I finished off my storyboard also re did my shot list for the opening sequence and created my script. -
23rd December
Independent Study- Today I finished off sorting out the VIMA on this is England. I also completed picking a distribution company for my film and researched a few others as well. -
3rd January
Independent Study- Today I began writing about different BSR films and writing a short paragraph on their opening sequences. -
4th January
Today I finished off writing about examples of BSR films because I didn’t get to finish it so I completed it in the lesson today. Next lesson I need to check my folder and just improve any little errors so that I have a presentable planning folder. -
6th January
Today I just double checked my planning folder and edited any bits which I thought I had time to improve and neatened the folder as a whole. Planning Folder is all Due Next Lesson! -
10th January
Today sir has told us what we all have missed in our planning folder and we have 2 more weeks to finish the planning folder, film and edit. Next lesson I need to look through the audience research and put together what results I got back. -
11th January
Today I started to look at all the audience research; although it may be too late I still have made sure that I have evidence of research for the audience. Next lesson I need to put all the answers from the questionnaires into a table and write a brief report. -
13th January
Today I transferred all the answers from the questionnaires onto a table and wrote a brief report on them. Next lesson I need to look into the plenimary task and the PowerPoint that I made as evidence. -
17th January
Today I looked back my plenimary task that I had done in November and began to edit the PowerPoint which I presented to the class. Next lesson I need to finish editing the PowerPoint. -
18th January
Today I finished off mending the PowerPoint on the plenimary task. Double check through the planning folder and make sure everything is correct and I haven’t missed out anything. -
20th January
Everything that I need in the planning folder is there and I have finally completed the planning folder I need to start filming next lesson because I have left it too late! -
24th January
Today I filmed everything that I needed to include in the opening sequence and I also sorted out non copyright music. Need to start on the editing. -
25th January
Today I just edited all lesson and added the music. Need to complete all editing! -
27th January
Today I finished off all my editing and now my opening sequence is complete. COMPLETE!
