  • I'm a native Phoenician

    I'm a native Phoenician
I was born in September of 1997: I was born in Phoenix, on a day my mom remembers it being 105 degrees. At my birth, only my dad and my grandmother were present. My mom didn't think she was in labor, so they didn't have a chance to call anyone until after I was born.
  • Jonathan, my brother, was born.

    Jonathan, my brother, was born.
My brother, Jonathan, was born when I was almost 5 years old: My brother's birth means a lot to me because he is my constant partner in the house. I can't imagine living only with my parents. Being an only child would be depressing.
  • First Day of Kindergarten

    First Day of Kindergarten
I started kindergarten: I remember how excited I was to start school. This day is actually one of my first childhood memories, simply because I can still see myself crying and holding onto my mother. I met a boy that to this day is still a good friend, and hopefully we are going to graduate together this year.
  • New house, new school.

    New house, new school.
I moved to a new house: The experience was nerve-racking. I had to start at a new school for second grade, which meant making new friends. I also experienced for the first time riding a school bus.
  • First concert

    First concert
My cousins and I went to my first concert: This was definitely an impact because it was a major social event that I hadn't experienced before. The lights, the sound, the adrenaline of the public hits you like a vibration in the air. I was able to enjoy this event with my cousins that I consider like my sisters.
  • Trip to Mexico

    Trip to Mexico
I met my dad's parents on our first trip to Mexico: This was an exciting trip because I finally had the chance to meet the two people that raised by dad. I was also able to see where my dad came from and the places where he spent his childhood. The culture shock was huge; the life style is so different from what I'm used to.
  • Janethe and me

    Janethe and me
I met my best friend: My best friend's name is Janethe. I met her in 7th grade, after once again having moved to a new house. She and I instantly connected; to this day we have a special bond I've never managed to find with anyone else.
  • High school

    High school
I started high school: Again my family moved to a new neighborhood, a new house and I, once again, had to make friends in school. I soon found out I wasn't alone, everyone else in my freshmen class, were also making new friends and having new experiences. I reconnected with my friend from kindergarten, even though I had moved to 4 different neighborhoods since then.
  • Dance class

    Dance class
I began dancing: Entering my sophomore year, I discovered the world of dance. The amazing ability the human body is capable of was a huge surprise. Dance inspired me to research the art of dance from different regions of this world.
  • My Quinceañera

    My Quinceañera
I was fortunate enough to be able to celebrate "Mi Quinceñera". I enjoyed the practices for the "Vals" and the surprise dance. This was such a beautiful and special day for me, memories I will always cherish.
  • Driver's permit

    Driver's permit
I got my driver's permit: I wish I could say I got my permit on the first try, but studying really did the trick on the second try. Having the ability to drive has taught me responsibility and a sense of growing up. Now I just need to pass the driving portion of the test, which is very scary.
  • Senior Year!!!

    Senior Year!!!
I started my senior year in high school: So far this year has been the most fun of my high school career. After 3 years I've made connections with people which have had a positive impact in my life. I will be graduating in May and letting go of my childhood and entering i the adult world is both exciting and frightening.
