Personal Literacy Story

Parents Divorce
My parents moved to separate households at this time. This is when my literacy story really begins in my opinion. Both of my parents took very different approaches to my learning. This can be seen throughout my blog. -
Started Kindergarten
I started my official schooling at this time. Although it is important to note that my education really began at home much earlier than this. -
Jesse's Passing
My older brother Jesse passed away at this time. This had a dramatic effect on the way my family did everything, including how my father treated me in regard to literature and education. This is described in more detail in my blog post about Jesse found on the "Brothers" page. -
Winston's Gifted!
My brother, Winston, was identified as gifted around this time. This impacted my self-image and my literacy learning. More detail can be found in my blog post about Winston on the "Brothers" page. -
Highschool
I began highschool in 2009. This was a dramatic change for me as my entire attitude shifted. My parents had two different ways of dealing with this. Read more in my blog posts on the page about my early teenage years. -
Father's Passing
My father passed away in the year 2011. This was perhaps the most influential event that happened in my life regarding my personal literacy. More detail can be found on my reflection page (current views) as well as my blog page about my later teenage years and early adulthood. -
University
I finally began my university education at the University of Guelph in 2013, following in both of my parents' footsteps. -
Guelph Graduation
I graduated from the University of Guelph in 2019 with distinction. This was my most proud accomplishment so far. -
Brock University
I began at BrockU in September 2019. This has been my dream (and my parents') since I can remember. I hope to complete my program in two years and be prepared and able to become a teacher.
