Personal History Timeline

  • My Birth - Personal

This was the day I was born though it was quite sometime after that before I got to go home, because my umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck. This caused me to spend time in the NICU instead.
  • Ms. Conley's Third Grade Class - Professional

Ms. Conley's way of teaching was engaging and hands-on. I still remember third grade as my favorite grade, because I can still remember things I learned from her then and some of the activities we did in her classroom. This pushes me to really want to engage my students and have hands-on activities.
  • Baptism - Personal

This was the day I was baptized at Walnut Grove Baptist Church by my Pawpaw, the preacher there. This is important to me because it is when my individual journey with Christ really began.
  • Teacher Apprenticeship Class with Mrs. Staci Corbin - Professional

This was my first big experience in the classroom where I was not primarily a student. I gained valuable observations and this led me to major in education at Carson-Newman.
  • Carson-Newman - Personal

Coming to Carson-Newman for college was huge for me because I had never really been far from home or my family before then. My experiences here have shaped every aspect of who I am today and have continually challenged me and pushed to become stronger in my faith.
  • My Pawpaw's Death - Personal

This was a big event in my life because of the huge influence my Pawpaw had on me and the rest of my families' lives. We would not be the people we are today without his influence.
  • Work with the BOOST Program - Professional

Working with the students in the BOOST program has shaped my outlook on being a teacher more than anything else. I see in them each and every day how a teacher can help or fail to help their students. They push me to work harder to become a good teacher through differentiation and realizing the extra struggles many students face.
  • S.P.O.T.S. Trip to Crossnore School - Professional

Working at this school and with the students there really reminded me of the need for caring and innovative teachers who truly take the time to know their students. This pushes me to twant to take time to really form relationships with my students.
  • Dalton Middle School Trip - Professional

The trip we took to Dalton really reminded me of what high quality teaching looks like and helped me to remember why I want to be in the field of education. It pushes me as a teacher to really take the time to apply learning to real life experiences.
  • City Year Acceptance - Personal

This is the day I found out I had been accepted to City Year Los Angeles. This has been a big milestone for me because I have never been very far from home or the southern U.S. in general so this will be a big experience for me.
