Personal Finance 3.4

  • Need an Advisor?

I've decided that I need a financial adviser to help me with the complexities of economics. Where do I start?
  • Making the Decision

To start, I should look for an expert with several different qualifications. First should be guaranteeing that a potential adviser has some kind of credentials, like a CFP, which indicates that they have been through "rigorous exams" and have had "work experience" (Section 3.4).
  • Making the Decision (cont.)

I should also ensure that they have a fiduciary standard which would ensure that my interests will come first (Section 3.4). After checking these two things, I can check FINRA to see if they have any registered disciplinary issues or disputes, as well as to see their employment history (Section 3.4). After checking all of these things, I should meet the potential adviser to see if we are compatible. If I like them, I can feel confident entering a business relationship with them.
  • My Financial Future

After I hire an expert, I can use them to help improve my situation in many ways. I can ask them for help in organizing any potential college loans I would have to take out, and I can ask them to assess my financial situation and help me make goals about future purchases, such as potential apartments I might have to buy in college (Section 3.4). They can then design a plan to help me meet goals such as these in college and beyond.
