    Birth
    Oliver Cromwell was born in Huntington, England. He was baptised at st. John's church approximatley four days later. He was the second son of 10 children of Robert Cromwell.

  • Civil war

    When the civil war began, Oliver Cromwell was sent to organize the defense of Norfolk. Once his skills were shown as he helped secure most of the East Anglian counties, he was put in charge of calvery. When the New Model Army was formed, Cromwell was made General of the Horse and played an important part in the defeat of the King.

    Oliver Cromwell attainted the rank of lieutenant-general. On the outbreak of the First Civil War in August 1642, Cromwell took up arms for Parliament. Due to his success of securing most of East Anglia for parliemnt, this helped lead to his attainment of lieutenant.

    Another English civil war occurs that later is ended in 1649. Oliver again plays a key role in the victory over the royalists. On August 23rd news spread of Cromwells victory at Preston, most Royalists hope was lost and two days later, the Royalists surrendered.

Cromwell arrived in Ireland with his New Model Army in early 1649. Eventually conquered Ireland, and is still a hated figure there.

    Cromwell decides to rule as lord protector of England after the victories over the Irish and Scots for Ireland lasting about 5 years. Cromwell now was a virtual dictator of the Commonwealth, he dissolved the Rump Parliament in 1653 after it had failed to effect reforms demanded by the army and had sought to perpetuate its power.

    Oliver Cromwell is re-installed as lord protector of England. Cromwell declined an offer to make him king and on June 27th, 1657. He gave his formal assent to the new Commonwealth constitution, the Humble Petition, and Advice. The same day Cromwell was reinstalled as Lord Protector in a ceremony in Westminster Hall.

    Oliver Cromwell refuses the offer to throne in England, due to the fact he was afraid hed lose respect from his generals.The Humble Petition offered Cromwell the crown, and he agonized over whether or not to accept the title for almost five weeks. Eventually, Cromwell turned down the chance to be King,a title that would have passed to his eldest son upon his death .

    On septermber 3rd, 1658, Oliver Cromwell died in Whitehall, London. He was believed to have suffered from a malarial fever, followed by a Urinary or Kidney complaint.Oliver Cromwell died at the age of 59.
