    On may 18, 1804 Napoleon announced himself as emperor. His coronation took place on December 2, 1804 in the cathedral of Norte-Dame in Paris. This event is important because this is the beginning of a very significant time period not only for France but for all of Europe and most parts of the world

    In 1810 he arranged for the annulment of his marriage to Joséphine, who was unable to give him a son, so that he could marry Marie-Louise, the 18-year-old daughter of the emperor of Austria. The couple had a son, Napoleon II (a.k.a. the King of Rome) on March 20, 1811. this event is important because Napoleon wanted a son so he married another woman and it so happens to the daughter of one of his biggest enemies the emperor of Austria

    In 1812 France was devastated when its invasion of Russia turned out to be a colossal failure in which scores of soldiers in Napoleon's Grand Army were killed or badly wounded. Out of an original fighting force of some 600,000 men, just 10,000 soldiers were still fit for battle. this event is important because this was Napoleons biggest mistake he ever made

    The original form of Waltz was first used by 13th century peasants in Germany, who devised rolling folk dance that was quite different from all court dances that were popular in that time. Their folk dance filled with rolls, glides and turns was received well, and by 1500s it reached Volta where it was adapted with styles of other local dances. By the end of 16th century people of France used aform called Nizzarda. this event is important because the waltz is used at many formal events in Europe

    beethoven published his seventh and eighth symphony on the 8th of December. this event is significant because 11 years ago he published his second symphony and at this point Beethoven is a world famous composer

    Napoleon was exiled to the island of Elba.He watched as France fell without him. In March he escaped the island and made his way to Paris, where he triumphantly returned to power. Napoleon immediately led his country back into battle. He led troops into Belgium and defeated the Prussians on June 16, 1815. But then, two days later, at Waterloo, he was defeated in a raging battle against British. Napoleon once again suffered a humiliating loss. he was exiled to the remote island of St. Helena

    Napoleons health began to deteriorate, and by 1817 he showed the early signs of a stomach ulcer or possibly cancer. By early 1821 he was bedridden and growing weaker by the day. In April of that year, he dictated his last will: "I wish my ashes to rest on the banks of the Seine, in the midst of that French people which I have loved so much. I die before my time, killed by the English oligarchy and its hired assassins." Napoleon died on May 5, 1821
