My love of reading

  • At a Young Age

    At a Young Age
When I was a little older then 5, my mother and father started a book collection that consisting of Disney and Dr. Seuss books. I always very interested in them, I love when my parent would read them to me, but when even they couldn't, I would just look at the picture. It wasn't until I was six years old that I could read well enough to read alone.
  • A Little Brother With An Obessesion

A Little Brother With An Obessesion
As I grew up, I became more and more of an avid reader of my Dr. Seuss books, so much so that I use to read them to my baby brother. He very quickly became obsessed with the book "Green Eggs and Ham" to the point of reading it multiple times a day. I eventually grew to be able to read that book forwards and backwards by heart due to the fact I read it so many times to him.
  • My Fourth Grade Teacher

    My Fourth Grade Teacher
When I entered the fourth grade, my teacher Mr. Mosman had a firm belief we could make books come to life if we truly believed in them. Everyday, for one hour, we as a class would lay our heads down on our desks in a dimly lit classroom while he read to us. This is where I first hear my favorite book set, a set that I have had in personal collection for many years and still love as much as the very first time I hear it, "The Chronicles of Narnia".
  • Chapter book collection

    Chapter book collection
When I moved on to middle school, I had my first encounter when popular fiction including Twilight and Harry Potter. These were the first books I had fallen in love with since The Chronciles of Narnia. Many of friends were sharing these books back and forth so I decided to try them, it sparked a further interest in reading.
  • High School and AP English

    High School and AP English
Up to this point in time, I had only loved the current popular favorites of my age range with little/no desire to expand to the classics until my AP English class in 11th grade. American Literature where we read The Scarlette Letter, the Crucible, etc. To this day, I still hate reading The Scarlette Letter but the Crucible is one of my favorite stories. This class brought together my love of history and reading.
  • The Chapter Book becomes the Comic Book

The Chapter Book becomes the Comic Book
In my freshman year of college, I found it to be rather difficult to throw myself into a book while taking my course because they required so much of my attention. So a friend turned me on to comic books or graphic novels, these allowed me to have an escape during the school year that required a little less brain power. Comics and graphic novels give you the visuals instead of having to image them yourself.
  • Fiction to Non-fiction

    Fiction to Non-fiction
I had always had an interest in history, especially watching the history channel with my dad as a child, but in school, there wasn't much cultivation to that love by my teachers. Textbooks are very dry and boring, we didn't have any outside texts to supplement our education. It wasn't until I visited Pearl Harbor in the Spring of 2013, this is where I found some of my favorite autobiographies of all time written by survivors of the tragic.
  • The Bookstores of the East Coast

The Bookstores of the East Coast
Living on the West Coast, especially Vegas, is different than anywhere else in the United States, mostly because our history is melted into the ghetto or torn down to be replaced. So therefore when I visited the East Coast for my honeymoon, I was amazed by the history and the bookstores that went Barnes and Noble. I practically spent all of my time in those, buy more stuff for my collection.
  • My Inheritance

    My Inheritance
When I was 13 years old, my dad was killed in a motorcycle accident, which of course changed my life. When I moved out on my own, my step-mother gave me his book collection.
  • My current collection

    My current collection
Currently, my collection of books is at 700 books spanning across three bookcases, to of which are 6 foot tall and the other at 5 feet. I have many of the book double lined on the bookcase, and I am still collecting..
