My Literacy Timeline

  • When my parents started reading to me!

When my parents started reading to me!
Around the time of May of this year, 6 months into my life, my parents remember when they just started to read to me. They read a myriad of books to me! One of the first books they read to me (that they remember) was Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book. One of the Six T's of Allington's 6 T's of Effective Learning that's related to this event was the T of Text. The reason I would say this one is Text is because it's the event that really started my literary adventure and started my life of reading!
  • My first word!

A couple months after I turned 1, I ended up saying my frst words, and from what my parents told me my first word was "puppy" because around that time we had my old dog, Sammy. She was pretty protective over me, being that I was born premature and I was a pretty small baby till I got a bit older. One of the six T's of Allingtons 6 T's of learning experience that was experienced during this event was Talk, and that was because that was my first word that I ever spoke.
  • First day of school!!!!

    First day of school!!!!
Towards the end of August of 1999, I started attending my first offical school; that school was Robeson Elementary in Chamapign Illinois. This experience was the start of my whole school expeirence and was another reason I wanted to be a teacher! One T out of the six T's in Allingtons 6 T's of Effective Instruction that was present during this event was Teach. This expierence was on of the most influential expierence regarding my education; it ignited a spark in my educational life!
  • First experience in the world of Drama

First experience in the world of Drama
One project we did in my 4th grade class was experience what it was like to be in a small play of a piece of literature we were reading in clsss (I do forget what piece this was though)! This project's pretty memorable to me because that's what sparked my "long lived" love for dramatic interpretation! This event actually had 2 T's in it, which were Text and Talk, because we both read the piece and performed it, so it was a combination, one of the benefits of doing drama inside the classroom!
  • My poetry won?!

    My poetry won?!
During 7th grade in my Language Arts class, we had a lesson on poetry, and our teacher has us all write a poem about something and we had to perform it to the class; my poem was about myself and how I felt different compared to the rest of the class. For the 6 T's represented in this event would be Talk, Text, and Task. The reason why I would say all 3 of these because I had to write the poem and come up with a theme of it, write it and recite it, and then finally perform it!
  • Aladdin The Musical

    Aladdin The Musical
My first experience of High school was being in the falll show there and it being my first actual "Acting" experience, which the show was Aladdin. This event was the beginning of my experience within the world of drama and it's endeavours! There were two T's out of the six T's that were represented through this event; the two T's were Talk and Time. Talk because we had to perform in front of people and Time because it was an actual commitment that we had commit time too!
  • Illinois High School State Speech Competition

Illinois High School State Speech Competition
During my Junior year of High School, I got the chance to compete with my high school in the Illinois High School State Speech Competition, where I performed a small skit with serveal friends! We placed 17th as a school, but it was all about the fun! This event had several T's in it, which include Text, Talk , and Test. These T's were shown as us finding a piece to perform, practicing it, and performing/competing with this piece with other schools!
  • Currently!

    Currently!
And now here I am currently in my life, where I'm learning so many things about literacy and other things that are relevant in the world of teaching! For the T's represented in this event would be all the T's, because I have to balance time between work and school, I have a myriad of things I'm tested on, I try and talk to everyone, I'm starting to do some teaching in school and in work, I have to multitask, and of course read what's assigned in class!
  • Literacy History Reflection

    Literacy History Reflection
The patterns across my timeline regarding events is that a lot of them were considered to be more in the field of the Arts than anything, because I had my first dramatic performance, my first poetry reading, first show I've ever been in, and Speech team, which all fall into their field of Art. So overall, I think the field of Art has affected my literacy more than anything else has!
