The Day I was Born

Hurricane CamilleMy mom was due to give birth to me and a hurricane was brewing in the Gulf. Mom's doctor ordered her to the hospital because she lived almost 25 miles from the nearest hospital. Hurricanes come in and the barametric pressure drops. When the pressure drops women go into labor. My mom was due to have me on August 20th. On the morning of August 13th my mom went to the hospital.

My Grandmother Gets Sick

I am not sure of the exact date, but my grandmother has a massive stroke and seizure 2 days after this photo was taken.

My Education Begins

Trinity Baptist ChurchI began Kindergarten at Trinity Baptist Church in Tanner-Williams, Alabama. At that time in history, kindergarten was not mandatory and if you went to kindergarten your parents paid for it!

The first born of my younger sisters is born. It was a snowy day in January. I remember hoping and praying it was a brother!! No such luck!

MawMaw Dies

My paternal grandmother (we call her MawMaw) passed away on this day. It was a Sunday and I remember wondering how she could have died. I had just had grits she had made for breakfast! I had experienced family members dying before, but this was the first time it hurt.

PawPaw Dies

My paternal grandfather (we call him PawPaw) passes away.This was the turning point in my life. I was going to be graduating from the 6th grade in a few weeks and the person I was closest to was dead. I was devasted!

My Grandmother Dies

My maternal grandmother - the one that got sick when I was 3 years old passes away. This is a very sad day because this is also my parent's 18th wedding anniversary.

Maternal gradfather dies after 6 months of battling bone cancer.

Bought our First Home!

Purchased our first home in Brentwood, California! Our friends thought we were really young to be purchasing our first home. I was 28, my husband was 30!
