As a 6 year old boy I remember the heat and fumes hitting me as we stepped out of our plane. I had been very ill on the long trip from Amsterdam, but the heat and smell of fuel made me sick all over again.

After 6 months of living in a rental property in the suburbs of Adelaide we moved to the country town of Balhannah. I loved it, there was an old railway station behind our house no longer in use, a perfect place for a boy to explore!

My Bio at HCCS
In 1985 I went to the Hills Christian Community School. It was the third one already since we had been in Australia! -
My time at this school was average. All my grades were average, my friends were average, im sure that most of the teachers didn’t even notice me. Probably because I wanted to be invisible. A teenager struggling with issues around sexuality has a pretty hard time.

So After 4 years at Glenunga my parents were worried about me. They thought there was something wrong with me and guessed that a change in school woudl fix the problem. What a waste of money! Nice school and all, but I was only there for 1 year, my final year. No friends. Failed 3 subjects!

So the South Australian Government had a year 13 program, where you could take the best of 2 years, in terms of subjects, and use them for your university entrance. I did my year 13 at Oakbank Area School, Applied Maths, Photography and Computer Studies - loved it!
