My Journey Becoming a Yoga Teacher

  • My First Yoga Class

I took my very first yoga class in high school as a gym credit. I had no idea that it would lead to a life of mindfulness and freedom later on in my life. The experience was relaxing and blissful. I had never experienced anything like it before and I loved it.
  • My First Yoga Class in a Yoga Studio

My best friend invited me to go to a yoga class with her. It was hot yoga and it was for charity. I had only ever done a yoga class once before and it was in high school and I had a rough idea of what I was getting myself into. I decided to try the hot yoga. That was the moment I fell in love with yoga and the start of my regular practice.
  • Joining the Yoga Community as an Energy Exchanger

I loved practicing so much that I felt like I needed to deep dive into the culture of it and the community. And so I decided to join the energy exchange program at the studio I was practicing at to be able to get to know the studio life a little more in-depth and build more meaningful connections with the yoga teachers.
  • Yoga in Vancouver

I had moved to Vancouver to go on a soul journey and found myself gravitating to the yoga culture within the city. It was a very rich culture of yoga in Vancouver and I loved how much I felt at home in that city. I would practice at a studio called YYoga which was very yoga/spa like. I also practiced my first outdoor yoga class with Lululemon at Stanley park that year.
  • My First 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training

I loved being in the yoga community so much that I decided I would take the leap and become a full on yoga teacher. I traveled to Kelowna to do a one month intensive teacher training. It was the most freeing experience I had ever had and the most memorable. I will never forget the self-reflective journey of that first yoga teacher training and the people I met along the way.
  • Yin Yoga Training

I was in the middle of a separation with my ex-fiance and this yoga teacher training was necessary for my healing. I flew to Calgary for this training for a week.
  • Barre Teacher Training

I loved yoga so much and I had a background in dance and I knew Barre was becoming something trendy and something I would love and be good at. I took my car and did a road trip down to Minneapolis by myself to go to this training for a week.
  • Hatha Training

I had developed a love for going to yoga teacher trainings. There was something about the experience of it, the wellness of it and the like-minded people that drew me in more and more to want to dive deeper.
  • Vinyasa Training in New York City

I always had a dream of traveling to New York City. When I found out there was an opportunity for me to take a yoga teacher training there I jumped on the opportunity to make it happen. I got on the plane the day of my birthday and went for a 2 week stay in Manhattan and Brooklyn for my teacher training.
  • Teaching My First On Stage Yoga Class

I had been approached by the biggest park in Winnipeg (Assiniboine Park) to teach yoga on the Lyric theatre stage as part of their summer series. Kick off to the series would be on International Yoga Day (June 21). I was so excited. The class was the biggest class I had ever taught with over 250 people present including News Cameras to showcase the event. I was fully equipped with a giant stage a head set and a musician beside me. I felt like the Yoga version of Britney Spears.
  • Year 8 being a Yoga Teacher

It has now been 8 years since I took that first yoga teacher training and it was the best decision I made. I am currently still practicing and teaching yoga in both a studio space and through my own wellness business.
