During this event the frank leader Charles Martel defeated a large army of Spanish moors. Charles was the illegitimate son of Pepin and when Pepin died Charles beat out his grandsons for power. Charles expanded the franks territory. Rome put simply fell to corruption and war. Rome over its time of being around over expanded leading to its military to be spread wide allowing Rome to be weak and ill prepared for any attacks. This did allow the barbarian invaders to invade with minimal resistance. The Germanic leader Odoacer lead revolts to the emperor Romulus Augustulus.
