My first word was Mama. I choose this to be a significant literary moment because it is the mark of the first time that I was able to reiterate a word that I had heard around me.

Barney played an important role in developing my speech abilities, and would eventually develop my writing capabilities. Through watching Barney, I learned my ABCs, numbers, manners, etc.

As a child, my local library would do Summer reading competitions. When you participated in the competitions, you would read five books at a time and when you did, you would get a prize and an award. I marked this as an significant moment because as a child, being offered prizes encouraged me to continue to read, so as I did, I was given the opportunity to learn new words.

This experience is associated with a story. I heard and learned the word Apprehensive from a television, and decided to use the word in a scrabble game against my fourth grade teacher to earn extra credit. The word did work and I got my extra credit. This is important because it encouraged me to learn and use more complex words on a day to day basis.

I choose this a negative influence. Throughout the middle school age 'text language' played a bit part in changing the way that I spoke and wrote, preventing me from learning proper terminology and speaking skills.

Within this part of my life, I did plenty of reading, looking through different genres to find which I like best. Though I won't it's name, I was encouraged to write my own story on the app. Though it wasn't very good, it was significant because I was able to get in to creative writing.

This is a significant moment because we worked with partners and with other employees in a professional setting. This experience helped me develop more professional sophisticated speaking skills.

When writing my college essay and doing my peer reviews, I was told that my essay was good, but that it sounded to simple. When I incorporated more complex words and read it out loud as part of the assignment, everyone had told me that they liked the new touch. This is significant because one, because it was a writing experience, but also because it helped me communicate a story to other with words, rather than through speech.

This course was as important as it sounds. By taking this class, I was able to learn techniques and information that was helpful to develop stronger speaking skills.
