    Unexpected gift
    Today it was my 9th birthday, so my father took me out hunting for my first time. Well we were hunting we found a bow and a quiver of arrows leaning on a tree with a letter. My dad told me to open it, so i did... After I read the letter I shortly realized the bow was for me. when we got Back I knew how to shoot my new bow and i had rabbit and carrots for dinner.

    My dad has been on edge lately and has been taking trips to North York very often. Also he has been taking me for trips out to the woods for target practice with my bow. Although I have been enjoying this and getting quite good with my bow he doesn't usually do this and be so strict so i am getting curious

    Today was the day of the first postage prints in Canada and my Dad just got back from a trip to North York aswell. When he got back he gave our family one of the first prints of postage stamps. I asked my parents if we should them safe instead of using them and they agreed with me.

    Today my Dad told me that a college named Trinity College is opening today. This college was founded in 1851 by John Strachan but did not open until January 15th 1852 when the college admitted its first students into a class of 15.
  • Start of a big fire

    Start of a big fire
    Today my Dad got a letter in the post saying that a very big fire has started in Montreal and will most likely burn down thousands of houses. The fire started July 8th which is yesterday. Sense the fire is in Montreal I am not worried that it will destroy our village but I am worried for the city of Montreal.

    Today there was a description of a proposed bridge across the St Lawrence. This would be a big help to people getting across the river my dad told me.
  • Sick family member

    My mother has been sick for a while but now she is getting very ill and the medicine we are giving her is not strong enough so there is nothing we can do but hope for the best.

    The Great Western Railway opened today Tom". Said my dad earlier this evening. He said that an entrepreneur named Samuel
    zimmerman was a very important person with promoting the construction of the railway.
  • Dead Mother

    Sadly my mother Julia has passed away today due to her illness although she was sick for a long time we couldn't figure out what the illness was or what caused it. But this will make a big impact on my life becasue now I have to contribute more work to the house.
  • Another gift

    Today was a great 14th birthday because when my dad took me on our annual hunting trip he gave me a brand new hunting rifle. He got it from the market in North York a couple days ago when he went on a buisness trip. He had to trade a deer pelt that we got last year on our hunting trip but it was worth it because we can catch more deer with my new rifle.

    I overheard a conversation today that Bytown has been renamed Ottawa at first I didn't know what they were talking about but then I went home and my dad explained it all to me and I thought it was pretty cool.
  • Broken leg

    I had a tragedy today when I was walking home from hunting dinner with my new musket I tripped over a low cut tree stump and broke my leg. In the wood i had to find a branch to make a makeshift crutch by the time was out of the woods my dad came running towards me and asked what happened I told him then he carried me home and got me one of our real crutches.
  • Leg is better

    Its been a couple days longer than two months now and my leg has finally fully healed. Sense my leg has healed fully my dad said he needed me to go catch some dinner so I went and shot 5 bunnies and sold them at a nearby market for 2 deer filets. So I went back home and cooked the deer and we ate.

    A bridge over Desjardins Canal collapsed today under a Great Western Railway passenger train and around 60 people died in the bridge collapsing along with the train.

    I have learned today that it is a very important day in history as Ottawa has been named the capital of Canada. This is the mark of our new nation.

    My dad said that 4 days ago a storm started up that ripped off part of North York created new islands just off of North York.

    Its the first Emancipation Day today celebrating the anniversary of slavery ending in the British Empire. Govener James Douglas declared this as the first holiday of the colonies.
  • House of Commons being built

    House of Commons being built
    House of Commons have started being built today and the corner stone for parliament has started being laid. I am pretty excited for the building to be finished because maybe I can work there one day.
  • Montreal flood.

    Montreal got hit by a major flood today and it will be flooded for a while. I hope this isnt as bad as the fire that happened in montreal.

    My dad said that the Macdonald-Cartier government has fallen today. Also the free interprovincial has gotten granted from the crown.

    It was supposed to be my dad and I's annual hunting trip but of course my older brother had to plan his wedding on my birthday. But I am 23 now and I have my own girlfriend and I should think about marrying her and getting a job.

    Today i decided to go out and look for a job and I found the perfect job of a hunter. I have to hunt at least 3 bunnies, 4 birds, and 7 squirrels every day. It will be a good job because I love hunting and for every dear I get I get a bonus.

    It is to bad but a train of newly arrived immigrants failed to stop at the open swing span near Beloeil, Canada East today. The Grand Trunk Railway train ran into the Richelieu River, this resulted in killing 99 people. This is very sad because they were coming to Canada for a new life and instead there life ended.

    Now that I am 24 and I am starting to learn more about politics I learned from a talk with my dad that there is a proclomation for Ottawa to be the seat of goverment for Canada. This is pretty big sense the government is mainly in North York.

    There has been a new village born today Embrun in Ontario. I am not aware of its size yet but I am sure I will find out. Also it is located in Eastern Ontario.

    3 days ago on February 16th John A. Macdonald married hi second wife because his first wife died. I am glad that he married again sense ghis first wife died.

    Today is glorious day as Sir John A. Macdonald becomes the first prim minister of the Dominion of Canada. This will be one of the greatest moments in Canadian History for a very long time and
    I am glad that he was ellected.

    Royal college for dentist established
    The Royal College of Dentist surgeons in Ontario was established this day and will go on to help people become great dental sugeons. The RCDSO is the governing body of Ontario dentist and it also protects the public's right to quality dental healthcare.

    Patrick James Whelan got hung today for the assassination of Thomas D'Arcy McGee. He was a Catholic spokesman, Irsih Nationalist, journalist, and a Father of Canadian Confederation. He did fight for the development of Irish and Canadian national identities this would end up transcending their component groups.

    Alfred Boyd has become the first premier of Manitoba today. Alfred Boyd was born on September 20th, 1835. He was born in England and arrived in Rupert's Land. He wasn't involved in public life much until 1870 in January. This is when he was elected for St. Andrews to the "COnvention of Forty".

    I decided to marry a woman named Julia Jones today. Me and her have already built a new house in Toronto and we both live there. We met because her dad knows my dad and I went with my dad to her dads house and she was there so we talked for a while and it went from there.

    The federal election of 1872 has come to an end and sir John A. Macdonalds Conservative party has been elected for the second federal election in a row. Me an my wife are glad Sir Jhon A.
    Macdonald got elected because we both like the conservative party.

    Today Sir John A. has resigned from the spot as prime minister and Alexander Mackenzie has been appointed to his place. Alexander Mackenzie is part of the Liberal Party so now the Liberals are in power.

    I have got a new job as a member of parliament. I start my job in 2 weeks. In the mean time I am still doing my hunting job and also hunting for myself so me and my wife Julia have food incase I can't hunt to often when I become an official member of parliament.

    Me and Julia have a new born baby that we have decided together to name Steven. He was born today at 1:37am. We brought him home and used the cradle that my parents used for me when I was a baby. We are very happy to have our first son.

    THe first long distance phone call happened today. This phone call conncted the Bell residence to a shoe and boot store in the close by Paris, Ontario. This has made big history in the world.
  • The Great Fire of Saint John

    The Great fire was an urban fire that destroyed parts of Saint John. It was caused by a spark falling on a bundle of hay in Henry Fair Weathers storehouse in the York Point Slip area. After 9 hours the fire had destroyed more than 200 acres of land.

    Sir John A.Macdonald has become the primeminister for the second time thus defeating Alexander Mackenzie. Even though Sir John A. resigned last tim I still think he will do a good job in the position of prime minister so I voted for him.

    Today George Brown has been fatally shot today by an employee and is getting help but he will probably not make it. George Brown was Scotish-born and lived in Canada he was a journalist, politician, and one of the Fathers of Confederation. (he would later die May 9th, 1880)
