    I was born on march 14,1979 to Betty and Benjamine Wilson. I almost died at birth due tosuffucation by the ambilical chord being wrapped around my neck when born.

    A little over a year after I was born my mom and dad divorced, my sister and i remained with my mother while my father moved out and later moved to California where he stayed for almost ten years. My sister and I would go and stay summers in Oakland.

    I attended Sabin Elementary for Kendergarden through 3rd grade. I made many friends whom i am still in contact with today. I then transfered to Alameda Elementary School.

    Time of hardship for my family

    My sister and I went through many tough times of hardship, poverty, and struggle. My mom was layed off from her job for over a year and was forced to go on welfare. Government cheese, powdered milk, bread and any other hand out that was given by the government my mother had to accept to care for my sister and I. Due to the hard times my mom was forced to file bankruptcy, there where times where we didn't have heat and was forced to dress in front of the oven.

    My sister graduated from Benson High School and went on to work outside of the home to help out with the household bills. She took a few classes at Portland Community College but did not attain her degree.

    I spent my last two years at Alameda Elementary School where I attended school wth mostly white kids. coming from a perdomently black school the adjustment was hard. I also was called Nigger on a couplle occasions by classmates.

    Middle school is where I began my journey. I played on the girls basketball team, participated in the school talent shows where I would sing and dance. Out door school was the best memory of my middle school years. Unfortanently I do not know what camp I attended.

    I attended Ulysis S, Grant High School. I was the typical teenager. I didn't excell in achademics but did partake in Gospel Chior, Basketball team, tried out for cheerleading but grades weren't good enough. I did manage to walk across the stage and graduate on time.

    I've worked for the same company since I've graduated from high school. I managed to find other part time work but always stayed with Fred Meyer.

    Attempt at college

    I enrolled at Portland Community College shortly after I started working for Fred Meyer. I stopped school completely to live the young dumb life of partying and hanging with the wrong crowds to eventually stop school completely.

    I eventually returned to college at Portland State University and shortly after found out I was pregnant with my son.

    I gave birth to my first and only child Isaiah T, Phillips. I was scared of the unknown and not knowing what to expect from motherhood but it has been a joy and a pain but Its been a blessing.

    My mother continued her health battle and was finally approved to be placed on the liver transplant list in September of 2010 and so the wait had begun.
  • Mothers Health Decline

    My mothers health condition was finally revealed to my sister and I. She went on to have liver reconstructive sergery where she suffered many set backs before partially recovering and seeing her first grandson born.

    The Day My Whole Life Changed
    My mother didn't get the chance to get her new liver. My mother passed away on the 5th of November. That was the worst day of my life. That was the day my whole life changed.

    My Next Journey
    I have come to the next journey of my life and it begins with Warner Pacific. June will be a year that I have been attending and in May of 2015 I will have the pleasure to walk across the stage as a graduate and be the first in my family to hold a degree. I am so excited!!!
