    France is still using this outdated social system which had three estates. the first one was the clergy, the second was the nobillity and the last on was the bourgeoisie. The church had a ton of wealth and owned ten percent of the land. About half the government's income from taxes went to paying the intrest of debt. There were bad harvests which made food prices soar.

    coin France is almost bankrupt, then Louis the sixteen calles the estates-general. Jacques Necker, a financial expert wante the kng to tax the first and second estate. The third Estate didn't get what they want so they made the Tennis court oath which was the third Estate said they weren't leaving till they got what they want. the National assembly was born in June of 1789

    revolt In 1789 the political crisis was still looming over France. There were rumors that the government was going and seizing peasant crops, defiant peasents set fire to old manor records and stole grain form storehouses. during this time many wantedto gain power in Paris, one canidates was Marquis de Lafayette. Lafayette was aristocratic, he headed the national guard. The paris commune replaced the rotalists government. On August 4, the nobles gave up thier privileges. then the women march too.

    Parisians storm Bastille
    on this date, eight-hundred parisian went to Bastille and demanded weapons and gunpowder. The French refused so the Parisians stormed the Bastille and took it over and killed the commander. then they ripped down the Bastille by hand. this date is France's independence day.

    monarchyPariains storm the royal palace of Tuileries and slaughtered the king's guards. Citizens attacked prisons that held nobles and priests accused of political offenses 1,200 were killed. they wrote a new constitution, and in 1792 the monarch was abolished. In January 1793 the king was executed and then in October the Queen was executed.

    There was a new constitiution written, the directory was created they were weak but dictatorial. then everyone turned to Napoleon for help, because he was a leader of the French Army.
