  • Battle of Tippecanoe Creek

    Battle of Tippecanoe Creek
    The Shawnee leader Tecumseh gathered multiple tribes together, and told the British he would help them if they fought the U.S. After a couple of years, Both the U.S. and the Indians were ready to fight. The Indians tried to raid an American camp, but lost. This event was important because it made the Ohio River Valley and the areas around it safer. The defeat was a serious blow to Tecumseh’s efforts.
  • First invasion of Canada

    This invasion of Canada ended with the surrender of Detroit, where the American troops were fighting from. This loss happened mostly because Ohio and Michigan militias were slow to come to support the other troops. This event was important because This battle is important because the U.S. lost Detroit and the U.S. realized it would be harder to overtake Canada than they had originally thought.

    The U.S. tried to invade Queenston Heights, the Canadian part of Niagara Falls. The U.S. lost this battle mostly because the new York militia refused to cross into Canada, and partly because the men were poorly equipped. This event was important because This battle was important because the British lost one of their major generals, Isaac Brock. Also, the U.S. lost nearly 300 men, who were all either killed or seriously injured.

    The U.S. tried to invade Montreal, but after multiple skirmishes they retreated (they never made it into Canada). The U.S. didn’t succeed because the New York militia refused to cross into Canada again. This battle was important because the U.S. still had no control of Canada. The U.S. also lost many troops.

    US Naval Commander Oliver Hazard Perry captured a British fleet on Lake Erie.
    Captain Oliver H. Perry defeated the British on Lake Erie, which ensured American control of the lake. This also compelled the British to fall back from Detroit. This battle was important because it gave U.S. control of Lake Erie. It also helped pave the way for the U.S. to attack Canada again.

    The British attacked Washington D.C. and they burned many buildings, including the Capitol and White house; Also they looted many of the building. The president and members of congress were able to escape from the city. This event was important because the British gained the advantage of having our capital, the British gained money from the buildings they looted, and America lost its capitol city.

    The British attacked Fort McHenry, which was protecting Baltimore. American troops successfully defended the Fort from the British attack. This event was important because American troops repelled the British in the Baltimore area. Also, Francis Scott Key wrote the poem that would eventually become the Star-Spangled Banner.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Battle of New Orleans
    American troops, under General Andrew Jackson, defeated the British as they tried to capture New Orleans so that Louisiana would be seperate from the rest of the U.S. The American troops heard news of this attack from pirate Jean Lafitte, so they were prepared. This event was important because it was the finale battle of the War of 1812, and it increased national pride, which had lowered during the War of 1812 because of all the losses.
  • Napolean's defeat in Europe, allows British to send troops to America

    Napoleon's army was defeated in the Battle of Waterloo. Britain then sent 18,000 veteran troops to help in the war against the U.S. This event was important because it allowed the British army to continue fighting and it allowed them to have enough troops to overtake Washington D.C.
