  • First Day of School

    First Day of School
I begin my formal education at P.S. 205 in Brooklyn, NY. We had full-day Kindergarten, even back then.
  • Great Role Model

    Great Role Model
My mom was a veracious reader. We would make a day of our frequent trips to the library. We traveled there by bus carrying all of our library finds.
  • High Stakes Standardized Testing

    High Stakes Standardized Testing
Every year we took standardized tests in reading, writing and math, but some years were more important than others. Little did I know that my 4th grade tests would direct the rest of my public school education, through High School! It was these scores that guided my placement in an advanced track in Junior High School and then into my High School college track.
  • 5th Grade Read To Kill A Mockingbird

5th Grade Read To Kill A Mockingbird
My 5th grade teacher had us read To Kill a Mockingbird. He pumped us up so much for this endeavor. He consistently told us how this book was usually for students MUCH older, but that we could do it. He encouraged us to underline EVERY word we were unsure of. He encouraged us to write in the margins and completely digest every sentence and thought the author had written. I recall being so extremely proud of this achievement.
  • 5th Grade Wrote an Award Winning Newspaper

5th Grade Wrote an Award Winning Newspaper
During the same school year, I was part of a group of students who created a "Special Edition" of a newspaper reporting on issues at my elementary school. We were awarded first place in the NY Daily News competition.
  • Music Moves Us

    Music Moves Us
During Junior High School my choir classroom was my refuge. My teacher loved his job and was an awesome teacher. Every time we received a new song to sing, he started the same way...with the lyrics. We would go through the song lyrics with a fine tooth comb, dissecting every word, every sentiment and the overall feeling and message of the words.
  • Blown Away...

    Blown Away...
Early on in my High School years we read the short story, The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson. I can recall being shocked at the tale the author wove. When the reality of the the world she created was fully revealed to me, I remember being utterly shocked to my core. I also remember being flabbergasted and impressed that one person's words could effect me in such a powerful way.
  • The Classics...My High School Years

    The Classics...My High School Years
My High School Years were filled to the brim of reading the classics and falling in LOVE with reading. These are a few of the titles I remember reading during these years: Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet, King Lear, Julius Caesar, Mid-Summer Night's Dream, Macbeth, Catch-22, In Cold Blood, Arsenic & Old Lace, Death of a Salesman, The Crucible, The Scarlet Letter and All Quiet on the Western Front.
  • Wizarding World of Harry Potter

    Wizarding World of Harry Potter
I became immersed and mesmerized by the Wizarding World that J.K. Rowling created. I read and reread this series several times deconstructing bits and pieces and hunting for clues and hints as to what was next. I joined online conversations with others to discuss plot lines and theories.
  • A Life Long Learner

    A Life Long Learner
I went to college as adult with three of my own kids. Through my college career I earned a B.S. and a M.Ed. The class I enjoyed the most was a class I took at CSN titled, Literature of the Holocaust. The class and the readings were profound and moving. The instructor was an expert in his presentation and discussion of the material and readings.
  • Onward & Upward

    Onward & Upward
I am currently studying for my GRE's. I am planning on beginning a doctoral program in the fall of 2018. Once again I am turning to my ability to read to change and guide my life.
  • Keep On Keepin' On...

By 2021 I plan on having my Doctorate degree and be an alumni of Stanford or Harvard. I will explore the idea of education in the United States and was to improve it so it works better for everyone.
