According to mom, I received my first set of hard cover books at Christmas when I was one - mostly chewed on them!

The newspaper was ready for my father to read every evening when he got home from work. I would sit on his lap and pretend I could read too.

My first grade teacher was Mrs. Curran. It is because of her that I decided to be a teacher. Once I learned to read, there was no stopping me.

I entered my first spelling bee in 3rd grade. I did not win but had a good showing.

My girl scout troop presented "Pirates of Penzance". It was my first time on stage and memorizing lines and songs. I was hooked.

In 5th grade I joined the debate team

My father took me to the movies for my birthday when I turned 11. This was the first time I had ever seen a movie in a theater. It was like a book coming to life - incredible!!! I wanted to read and see more.

In approximately 1971 I learned how to read sheet music and began playing the piano.

My favorite book series was The Nancy Drew Mysteries. My nose was always in a book - even during dinner.

In the 7th grade I took a drama class. My choices were cooking, wood shop or drama. That was a no brainer! I loved memorizing my lines and being on stage.

In the 9th grade, I entered a talent contest at school. I did not win but had a really good time performing.

I enjoyed the drama class so much in 8th grade that I decided to join the drama club as a Sophmore. I stayed in the club throughout high school.

In my junior year of high school I got the lead in the play "Our Miss Brooks'. There were so many lines to learn but I remembered them all.

I graduated high school in June of 1976. I was asked to read the pleadge of allegiance to the audience to begin the procession. My father was very proud.

It was a presidential election year and I voted for the first time. My dad showed me how to read a practice ballot. It was all very exciting. I felt like I was part of the system.

I started college in 1978 at New Mexico State University. I already knew I wanted to be a teacher but it was much more practical to take business classes. I was in colledge for 2 years and then got married.

I was married in January of 1980. Time to settle down and have children. I worked for a Real Estate Office and ready many contract documents all day.

By 1984 I had 2 children and no time to think much less read!

By 1994 I had a houseful of children, a career, husband and dog. My favorite thing to do was lock myself in the bathroom and read the latest edition of Ladies Home Journal.

I love reading to the children at bed time but I do long for the days when I could curl up with a good spy novel and get lost in the pages.

By 2005 the children were grown and I was bored. I decided to go back to school and finish that teaching degree. I work 40+ hours a week but I figured I could squeeze college in - one class at a time!

In the fall of 2008 I was approached by the drama teacher at TCC Northwest. He was auditioning for a children's play and remembered me from a previous drama class. He thought I would be a good fit. It was so much fun! I had to take time off from work for the matinee shows but it was totally worth it!

It's a girl!!!! My first grandchild arrives. Our favorite book is "Guess How Much I Love You".

I now have 5 grandchildren. Not all of them live here in Texas so I spend many hours in cars and airplanes going to visit them. My favorite books are lawyer tales and my favorite author is John Grisham.
