    UN Partition Plan
    The UN Partition Plan was the partition of Palestine into Jewish and Arab States, with Jerusalem to be an internationalized city. The Palestinians and Arabs felt it was an injustice and rejected the plan. The Jewish representatives in Palestine accepted the plan because it implied international recognitions for their aims of establishing a state.

    Fighting broke out when five Arab nations invaded territory in the former Palestinian mandate, following the announcement of the independence of Israel. The UN adopted a resolution that would divide Great Britain's former Palestinian mandate into Jewish and Arab states. This sparked conflict between Jewish and Arab groups in Palestine. These two groups launched attacks against each other, and the fighting continued in to 1949.

    Israel launched a strike on the village of Al-Samu in the West Bank. This war before they took control of the land, and it left 18 dead and 54 wounded, creating severe tension between the Israelis and the Arabs before the Six Day War.

    The Six Day war was the third of the Arab-Israeli wars. Before the war, there were attacks against Israel by Palestinian groups in Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. Israeli won, and their victory included the capture of the Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights.The UN launched a ceasefire, but by this time, Israel already had control of those lands.

    The PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization), headed by Yasir Arafat launched an attack with airplane hijackings and the killing of Isareli athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. They gained their first world attention at this event, and it added to the ongoing tensions between Israeli and Palestine.

    In an attempt to make peace, Israel and Egypt signed a peace accord that returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt. This was taken from Egypt during the Six Day War. It also ended three decades of hostilities between Egypt and Israel and establishing diplomatic and commercial ties.

    Yasir Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin signed the Oslo Accords. This gave Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank limited self rule under Palestinian authority. It was the first official aface to face greement between the PLO and the government of Israel.

    U.S. President George W. Bush called for an independent Palestinian state lthat would live in peace with Israel. Bush said that Palestinian leaders must take steps to produce democratic reforms in order to improve the negotiations with Israel. He also stated that as Palestinians show control over terrorism, Israel must end operations in the West Bank, and in areas which it entered under Operation Defensive Shield
  • Hamas win Palestinian Parliamentary Election

    Hamas win Palestinian Parliamentary Election
    The Hamas, a Palestinian-Islamic organization, won the Parliamentary election, and seized control of Gaza. Palestine lost the land of Gaza in the Six Day War to Israel.
