Another thing that the partition stated was that a international government for Jerusalem was the eighth division that was to be controlled by the United Nations Trusteeship Council.

    A huge war that lasted one full year started right after the proclamation of Israel becoming a state on May 14,1948. President Truman gave them recognition for it. Andrei Gromyko, the Soviet Union's UN ambassador, announced to the UN to accept Israel as a member state. The UN accepted and the the Soviet Union followed the same three days later. On May 15, 1948, Lebanese, Syrian, Iraqi, and Egyptian troops swarmed Israel and join forces with Arab soldiers. Arab ended up winning the war.

    This war began because Egypt tried to take control of the Suez Canal and it was followed by an attack from Israel, France, and Great Britain. The Suez Canal was an man-made waterway that is important. An Egyptian president named Gamel Abdel Nasser associated the Suez Canal, which threatened Britain and French interests in oil supplies and western trade. What he was doing made Israel, France, and Britain mad. They ended up rebelling and got beat. The Egyptian president had won the war.
