  • UN Partition Plan

    UN Partition Plan
    A special committee for the UN came up with a plan to separate Palestinian territory into 2 states, giving more land to the Jews. Because of this, Israel became a state in 1948, becoming the first Jewish state in 2,000 years.
  • Six Day War

    Six Day War
    Israel took the Gaza strip and the Sinai from Egypt and the Golan Heights from Syria. That gave Israel 2X the land it controlled. Surrounding countries had lots of Arab refugees flee to their land.
  • UN Resolution 242

    UN Resolution 242
    The UN Security Council came up with a plan, which said that no country should keep the land won in war and should be able to live in peace. The UN wanted Israel to give up the land won for peace between the Israelis and Arabs. Israel never gave the land back and smaller conflcts continued.
  • Munich Olympic Games

    8 terrorists from the PLO, a terrorist group led by Yasser Arafat, captured and held 9 Israeli athletes hostage for 2 days before killing them all.
  • Camp David I

    Camp David I
    Jimmy Carter met with Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin to negotiate a peace treaty between the 2 countries. A peace treaty was later signed in March 1981. But, Anwar Sadat was later assasinated by an Arab extremist for trying to establish peace with Israel.
  • Oslo Accords

    Oslo Accords
    Bill Clinton helped Israel make peace with the Palestinians. They agreed that the Palestinians would recognize Israel as a state. In return, Israel would take their troops out of Palestinian territory. Yitzhak Rabin was later assassinated by a Jewish extremist who didn't want to make peace with the Palestinians.
  • Al-Aqsa Intifada

    Al-Aqsa Intifada
    Israel's prime minister, Ariel Sharon, led many forces to Temple Mount to claim it for eternity and lead an uprising. Ariel Sharon was later elected again in 2001 as prime minister.
  • Gaza Withdrawl

    Gaza Withdrawl
    Ariel Sharon wanted full pull out of the Gaza Strip. Earlier that year, Abbas had stopped violence from Hamas. The withdrawl went ahead as planned, taking people away from their homes in the Gaza strip.
  • Gaza War

    Gaza War
    The year before, Israel declared Gaza a "hostile territory" before tightening their blockade. This helped the Hamas become more powerful. Israel later attacked the Gaza strip again in 2012.
