  • Arab states lend help

    Arab states lend help
    1948 - 1949 Surronding Arab countries of Isreal lend help and support to Palestinians. Arab nations, including Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and then-Transjordan. An armistice is formed in January.
  • 6 Day War

    Egyot forces gather in Sinai and Nasser and invade Israel. They block Israeli ships in the Gulf of Aqaba. Israel plans pre-emptive strikes against the Arab states. Israel captures Eastern Jerusalem, the West Bank, and drives the Syrians and other Arab nations out of the country.
  • Yom Kippur War

    October 6th to the 24th. Sadat, allied with President Hafez Assad of Syria, attacks Israel on Oct. 6, 1973 — on Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement Isreal fights back gaining most of the lost land. Soon after 18 days the UN finally stops the war. Some of the Suez Canal ends up going to Egypt and some of the Golan Heghts go to Syria.
  • Camp David

    Egyptian and Israeli leaders meet at Camp David with President Carter in 1978 to talk about a treaty in which Egypt would get complete control of the Sinai Peninsula. The treaty was signed on March 26, 1979, making the future look brighter.
  • Isreali Invasion of Lebanon

    Isreali Invasion of Lebanon
    June 1982, Israel invades Lebanon. Israeli troops reach Beirut, reaching the PLO and Syrians. The United States intervenes, and a outside help of US and European forces help the PLO and Syrian evacuation. Months later Israel retakes Beirut, and many Palestinian guerillas are slaughtered. The war ends in May 1983, and Israel slowly calls back their troops.
