Personal Narrative

  • Intro

If I had to describe myself in a few words, I would use; determined, hardworking, disciplined, and devoted. I'm a pretty easy-going person, and my main goal in life is to find happiness. Many events in my life have contributed to the words that I had used to describe myself.
  • Joining the middle-school wrestling team

During my fifth grade year, I had decided to join our school's wrestling team. At first, it seemed like more of a joke because I thought my small size would make it nearly impossible for me to be successful. It took me until the third practice to realize that they had weight classes. This was the start of me becoming disciplined and devoted.
  • Qualifying for the state tournament

During my third year wrestling, I was having my most successful season yet. I had been undefeated until the regional tournament and I was ranked fifth in the state leading into the sectional tournament. My first match, I had beaten a kid that I was supposed to lose to. This allowed me to qualify for state and make a huge upset that most people were surprised by. This event helped me realize how much hard works pays off in life, and how important it is to be determined to do something.
  • Getting my first A on a hard test

At the time, I had been struggling more than I should have with math. Algebra was just too hard for me at the time, and most of my grades had just been solid B's. There was an extremely important test coming up, that served as our final in middleschool. I had studied more than I ever had for a test at that point in my life, and I ended up getting a 97% which bumped my grade up to an A. This taught be to me determined and to try my hardest when I do something.
  • Doing well on a highschool paper

I had been doing very poorly in English my freshman year. I had a low B in the class and I was not doing very much, if any, of the homework. The time came where we had to write a paper based on Julius Caesar. I realized then that it was time that I could improve my grade. I spent the next few days only working on that paper for homework, and I was confident the day I had to turn it in. A few weeks passed and our teacher started passing them back. I had gotten a 90%, and I was pretty content.
  • Winning first tournament

It occured to me that I had qualified for state and had been ranked fifth, but I still had yet to actually win a tournament. It was a little later into my eighth grade year when I was in the finals of yet another tournament. I was going to face someone who had beaten me earlier in the year. I was going out on the mat just hoping to wrestle well. Less than a mintue into the match, I had him on his back and the referee had called a pin. I was extremely happy, and I felt like my hard work paid off.
