    During the 1700s British became tea drinking nation and they would their tea from China. They needed a way to pay for the stuff that they were getting from China. Around the 1800s China started to purchase opium from England’s Indian colonies. Europeans began to trade in opium.The trade was made illegal, but continued to create both an economic and a social problem in China
