Immigrint B: Angel Island

  • Birth

    Birth
I was born in Beijing,China on May 29,1845. I lived with my mother and my 2 brothers. My father died in a war. My mother decided to move to America because without my father we could not do many jobs. Life is very hard here because women cannot get as many jobs as men can. So my mother cannot work to feed us.
  • Seeing Angel Island

    Seeing Angel Island
The sight of Angel Island was breath taking. Everyone was pushing onto the side of the boat os that they could see their future. I was a little dissipointed because I thought they would welcome us a little more. Then I realized that I was on my way to becoming an American Citizen.

As we got off the boat we were divided into lines. The first thing they did to us was check our overall health, which I passed. The next place they took us to was a place where we could exchange our money for theirs. We could also meet up with family and get rooms to stay in for a couple of days if needed. So far my journey in America has been a good one.
  • Working on rail road

    Working on rail road
After my family and I got settled in I started looking for a job. I found one working on a local rail road that was being built. The pay was very low but I needed to help support the family. My boss was not to mean but he was very racist when he wanted to be. I worked long hard hours. My main job was putting explosives in the mountians and lighting the fuses. It was dangerous work but it paid bills.

    Getting mugged and beat up
One night, I was just getting off work and heading home when WHAM something hit me in the back of my head. I fell to the ground and couldnt get up. One of them held me down and the other reatched into my pocket and took some money out. They called me racist names but I couldnt make out what they were saying. I laid there until someone found me and took me to a hospitial. I stayed in the hospitial for 3 days then I was released. I will never forget this horrific attack.
  • Earthquake

    Earthquake
I was walking down the street when it happened. The ground started shaking. It was horriable i didnt know what to do other than run for shelter. I ran into a building which was about to fall I thought. This earthquake tore down many buildimgs. I feared for my life as I looked out and saw death and distruction. When it ended I ran straight home only to find my family dead...What I though would give me a better future actually cost me my family.
