    My name is Larry Shan and I currently live in China. Living in China as a peasant is very hard and I have trouble making money so I have decided to journey to America in hope of a better life and money to bring home to my family.
  • Inspections

    Inspections
    After finally arriving to America, I am greeted with an unpleasant inspection and orders given from rude white officers. Since I was not born in America, I must go through a long and boring inspection.
  • Bad Job

    Bad Job
    Since my arrival to America, I have been trying to look for a job to make money. Because I am Chinese, I am discriminated badly and I can't find a decent job. In the end I chose to start my own glasses company but it did not turn out well and I barely made any money.
  • Bad Life

    Bad Life
    I don't think I can live like this much longer. It feels like I'm in China again. I can't find a good job and life is once again terrible. Because I have little money, I can barely get past each day struggling to eat a good meal.
  • Moving West

    Moving West
    I have finally decided to move West. I heard something about a gold rush and maybe even land. In the South, I have found no success in making money, therefore I plan to head to the West in hope of getting rich and improving my life.
  • Great News!!

    Great News!!
    Today I received a letter from my brother! He's coming to America to get a job and settle down!! I can't wait for his arrival. There is so much a wish to show my brother. My life will be lonely no more!
  • Chinese Exlusion Act

    Chinese Exlusion Act
    My dreams of a companion in my journey are gone. Today the government has put into act the Chinese Exclusion Act. This act prohibits Chinese labor immigrant. Due to the Chinese Exclusion Act, my brother will not be able to come to America.
  • Land

    Land
    While I was journeying to California, I spotted thousands of people waiting in line with horses and wagons. It turns out that they were going to race for land. At first I thought it would be a great idea to get land but then realized because I didn't have a horse and I'm not a fast runner, I would never get land.
  • Disappointment

    Disappointment
    I came to California mainly in hope of gold. It turns out that the gold rush happened many years ago and I was way too late! When I arrived to California all the gold mines were mined cleaned. Because I didn't come to California at the right time, I didn't think I would ever get gold.
  • Gold

    Gold
    This ought to be the best day of my life! I have found gold - and lots of it too!! Everyone thought that all the gold was gone but because I was determind and never gave up, I found what I desired!
  • Conclusion

    Conclusion
    There were times when I thought I made the wrong choice in coming to America but I'm glad I stayed. America has been such a wonderful journey and I can't wait to go back to China and make my family proud. Because I left behind my old life and started a new one in America for the past 24 years I have made a lot of money.
