    I arrived to the United States today. I finished up at Ellis Island. It was a very nerve racking experience. I saw others from Ireland that I knew and I called out to them. All ignored me. I was all alone. The Island was crowded where I was. I've decided where I am going to move to. New York. I heard about all the jobs they have there. I hope to get a good one. I found another young Irish girl named Ashlynn Quinn. We became friends. Now I'm on my way to New York.

    Well, today, I met up with my family in New York and I' living with them at the moment. It's hard to find places to live here. It's a very popular place. I went into the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. I saw many girls working there. My new boss showed me where I'd be working. A young girl, looked about 21, raced in. She sat beside me. It was Ashlynn Quinn!

    Me and Ashlynn have really become close. But at work when we’re talking while working the boss yells. But we just start laughing afterward, usually. Work seemed kind of dangerous. All these people crowded onto the floors. I thought the whole place would cave in. It was very dirty compared to where I lived. I lived in a big white house on the top of the hill.

    Today is my birthday. I'm turning 25. Great feeling actually. Never felt better. My parents picked me up in a carriage after work. I brought Ashlynn along. It was a wonderful evening. You could say somewhere along the lines me and Ashlynn have become best friends. I had no plans of moving away from New York. I'm enjoying life as it comes here. I just couldn’t wait to meet the love of my life. If it ever happened.

    Well, today in the factory a couple girls got into trouble. They were chatting very loudly and the boss lost his temper. He slapped one of them. It was horrible! Imagine if that was me and Ashlynn!! Scary to think about. Anyway, during lunch break, me and Ashlynn got to talking about how we should strike. The boss didn’t pay very good, and he is just a horrible guy. Ha, I hope he doesn’t read this.

    Alannah will no longer be writing these entries. My name is Anna, her younger sister. Today the 8th, 9th, and 10th floor of the factory burned. I was working on the 8th floor as usual. Alannah had been working on the tenth floor for god knows why. I got outside and everyone was crowded around the building. I followed Ashlynn, Alannah's best friend, hoping she knew where Alannah was. There was loud cries and screams from me and Ashylnn. Where ever she is now, I miss her.
