My name is Alejandro Romero. I was born on October 31st, 1870, in Madrid, Spain. My parents were poor, and treated me badly. But when I was a young teenager, my parents both died from cancer. -
Arriving at Ellis Island
I am heading to New York from Spain. It was a hard life in Spain. I had a successful restaurant, but it burned to the ground in 1896, and I didn't have enough money to rebuild it and get new employees. I am coming to America because I want to work at the Meat Packing Factory in Chicago. -
At the Meat Packaging Factory
I am getting a decent income working in the Meat Packaging Factory for the 1st year working their. But, during my 1st couple days working at the Meat Packaging Factory, I cut my hand trying to put a dead mouse in the hopper. -
