reasons for going to america
Hello my name is Tamara smith and I am 19 and from Europe. I am making my way to America through Ellis Island. I am bringing the little money I own plus my two outfits. My family is treated poorly here in Europe and I want a new fresh start in a whole new environment. I want to explore new land, meet new people and get a job! America will be good for me. -
In america i found a job
Coming to America was for me to open up and explore new things. When I got here I did not find a place for the longest time and I was sleeping outside in the freezing weather but finally I got a job sewing and with the little money I was making I was able to rent a very torn down home. The people here in America respect me very much and I enjoy being here. America is hard work for me but I am able to keep up. -
New home
With the money I saved up I was able to a good home in a better environment than my one before. This house is very petite but good enough for me to live in. I am having much fun in New York on my own, I miss my family very much but I have to leave that behind me because I am now an independent women. -
moving west
I have decided that I want to move west. In the west I am expecting to meet new people and explore new types of lands. I also want to find someone to spend my life with. The money I have from sewing i was able to buy a horse to get myself West. I am traveling through the Oregon Trail to reach my destination. When I arrive I am also hoping to find a good job and that I am able to get land from the Homestead Act even though I know it will be difficult to find some. -
settling down west
I have made it successfully to the west! When I arrived I meet a great friend named Sarah Smith and she quickly caught a disease and died a slow painful death which was hard for me to watch and I tried to make new friends. I did find a tiny piece of land from the Homestead Act and started to quickly work on it to build my home. I got a job harvesting crops that was enough pay for me to start off my life here in the west. -
Husband
Because of the Homestead Act agreement that states if you get free land you will work on the land for 5 years to improve it I have been working on the land for 5 years but I did just finish a few weeks ago and I am free. I meet someone amazing named Miller Robinson and I became Tamara Robinson and we settled down together in his place. We both have similar stories of how we got here and we both love each other very much and we will both live a happy life together.
